I haven't been to a wedding in over 10 years and am feeling a bit clueless as to gifts. We have been invited to a wedding this summer. I have also been invited to the shower. Do we bring a gift for the wedding and the shower? If so, would you pick something from the registry for both? Something from the registry for the shower and then a cash gift for the wedding? Lesser value gift for the shower vs. the wedding?  
 
I'm not trying to be cheap, I just really don't know. I figured asking here was less tacky than asking the bride

Can only tell you what I do.  
Close relative or very close friend ..I spend more.  
I love a registry! Makes it so much easier for me.  
I spend less on the shower. I always ask for a gift receipt for easier return for the wedding couple in case of duplicates.  
For the wedding, money in a card .

Does anyone else want to chime in on what they would do?

I got tons of shower gifts and the amount of money spent on them depended on whether it was from friends, co workers or family. I did receive bigger items but multiple people put in on them. At the wedding of 125 guests I maybe got 6 gifts and the rest was money in cards. The amounts varied from $20 from my girlfriend to $100 from my aunt. Honestly... it's whatever you can afford because (at least for me) I appreciated everything I got from mixing bowls to a sewing machine! However, gift registries are amazing as I recall being the most excited about the items I wanted from it. Hope that helps!
