Velvet Revolver Show
10/15/2007 at 12:33 PM
You know I loved Stone Temple Pilots and a decent GNR fan. But over the past few years Velvet Revolver to me has produced a really unique sound that rock radio has embraced.
Last night's show at the MTS Centre was not bad.
Sound was excellent
Lighting was effective
Video was average
Staging was below average
Now for the show itself:
Some interesting mellow parts when the band would do an unplugged version of some STP and GNR tracks ( which I think serves zero purpose in a rock show ..... like why bring out the bar stools and try to make this MTV Unplugged).
To me the band doesn't seem to gel at all ...Scott Weiland is without a doubt one of the most powerful front men in rock today. During one of the encores he had the crowd of about 4,500 eating out of his hand. However the same can not be said for bass player Duff McKagen. He seemed really bored and going through the motions. Slash was ok but nothing over the top at all.
The songs sounded great and the encores with Slither and STP's Sex Type Thing were outstanding.
Overall I give the show the following marks:
Production - 7 out of 10
Live Crowd Interaction - 6 out of 10
Overall - 6 out of 10
