Tomorrow at 9pm (Saturday June 27th) Killarney drive in will be showing a free movie. Back to the future 3. I think they are starting earlier than the showtime will filming a video for Manitobaville in hopes to win the grant money to renovate their projectors, which is needed as it will be closing if they can't receive funding. It seems like an easy, fun way to go support them if you don't have money to donate. I am planning on taking my kids.

I wanted to post it on here because I'm not sure if it is well publicized and I am crossing my fingers that they will have a good turn out and be able to save their drive-in. How cool would it be to be able to take the kids when they are older? I'm not sure if this is the last drive in in Manitoba but I do know it is the closest. It would be very saddening if they do have to close and we lose a family activity option that makes us feel close to our roots.

The storm over the weekend ripped part of the screen down! But they are contacting insurance to see if it's covered.

all nostalgic feelings aside....

This is a privately owned business where the owners did very little, if any upkeep on the property but now want donations so they can keep it open.

They bought it knowing it was not one to bring in huge revenue and that there would be upkeep/repairs, so none of this should be a surprise to them.

The fence has rotted and started falling down, the buildings are in need of work but none is done, the screen was rotting and all it was going to take was a good wind like the other night to take it down.

This may be harsh but upkeep is a reality and expense with every small, private business so please quit asking for money (aka donations) and do what any other business has to do to survive.

It got struck by lightning. No maintenance in the world is going to stop that... They have added an FM transmitting system for sound. That is a pretty major upgrade so to say they have done nothing is pretty disingenuous. I do not disagree with a the fact that it is a private business but the world is full of private businesses that receive a hand through tax breaks, where no one gets a say in if they think the place deserved the help, this is free will no gun to your head to give. Now if the town stroked a check for 100k you would have a reason to complain. In truth it might well benefit a town that relies heavily on tourism to keep something like this open. My guess is no one has asked you for a single dollar so not sure why you care...

then stay open for the entire summer season.

We were camping in town almost every weekend last year and it was closed more than it was actually open. The times we did go, it was less than half full.

It used to be open from mid-May to late in September.

My point is, it is a private business, use the tax breaks you talk of and quit expecting hand outs.

Yep, it holds a lot of memories for people but memories don't generate income
