It does reflect interestingly that Family4ever's interactions with people is a distinct problem that our society currently faces - people cannot, or will not, separate fact and fiction or do any research to understand topics further. If it were me, I would take this opportunity to explain that it is a book, but you cannot deny these passages are in the bible.
Obviously the novel focused on the fanatical interpretation of the bible and how the Gilead's manipulated the readings to further their agenda. The book has been around since the 1980s and this is not the first cinematic foray, this particular iteration is made more modern to reflect our current technology, and women's lifestyles (reflected by June's inner monologue).
As for my opinion on the show, I wish it didn't deviate so much from the book, but I am looking forward to how it all comes together in the end.
