14 weeks and no fetal heartbeat
6/3/2009 at 1:14 PM
I just went for my doctor's appointment yesterday, and was really looking forward to being able to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time. But was very disappointed and concerned when the Doctor couldn't find one. I'm pretty sure I'm 14 weeks along, as I took my pregnancy test the day of my expected period and it was positive. I am a slim person, so I don't think that was a factor. This has been my third monthly visit to my family Doctor. I requested an obstetrician on my first visit, and he assured me that he would do that right away. I have only just today received my appointment in the mail for my first obstetrician appointment which isn't for another 6 weeks. My first ultrasound isn't scheduled for another 5 weeks. There have been a lot of pregnancy problems amongst my 4 siblings, and all of them have miscarried their first pregnancy. I guess I'm just kind of discouraged with the whole system. So many other places do first trimester ultrasounds, so why not here? I just sort feel like I've been left on my own with this pregnancy, and wish for some sort of reassurance that everything is ok with the baby. Does anyone else feel the same way about the system here? Has anyone else not heard the fetal hearbeat at 14 weeks? I'm concerned, but don't really know what I can do about it.
