So I have extended warranty on my year old car and it all of a sudden started leaking oil! If I have the warranty does a dealership usually give a rental car if the car can’t be driven?

Any warranty is between you and the manufacturer, the dealer has nothing to do with that.

On the wordings of your warranty. Does the warranty cover the cost of alternate transport? Find your paperwork and read it. Normally if the repair is a one day job a rental is not needed.

Its hard to give you a definite answer, you`ll have to contact the dealership for that. But the one time I've had to get work done on a vehicle that was still on warranty and it took more than one day, the dealership gave me a courtesy vehicle. But I would imagine there's a variety of factors that dictates if they give a courtesy vehicle or not. If you want a rental vehicle though, just go down to enterprise and rent a vehicle. But that will be on your dime.

Why would Autopac/MPI have anything to do with this? It appears to be a mechanical issue, likely covered under warranty.

When I have car issues and need to take it to a garage, I make arrangements with friends or family to get to and from work.  
 
Maybe you have to use your vehicle all day for work.

Short answer is probably not. Its best to talk whoever you are taking your vehicle to get it serviced.  
 
Dealerships only have so many vehicles. Those who may have their vehicle in getting body work done to it get first dibs on getting a courtesy vehicle. Make sure you read the print of borrowing a vehicle which likely includes filling the vehicle up with gas in it or you will get charged for it.

They may give you a courtesy car, if they have one. You also may have extended MPI coverage, which could pay for a rental vehicle while yours is out of commission.  
 
It is worth talking to your MPI agent if you don't know.

When you bought your insurance from MPI they would’ve asked you about Loss Of Use coverage (or something similar I can’t recall how it is worded exactly). It covers issues like you’re facing if you need a vehicle while your’s is getting fixed.

Has nothing to do with this situation. As stated above if it’s a mechanical issue your car insurance will not come into play. In order for the loss of use coverage to be used you have to have an insurable loss first, such as a car accident. Having mechanical issues is not insurable loss

Twice we have had a car go down on warranty. Both times they gave us a car to use and the second time was for a month until they got they part and fixed the problem. The dealership told us they added the cost of the rental vehicle to the warranty they charged the parent company.

Yea it’s a mechanic issue! I have the extended warranty so I’m hoping it’ll get fixed fast ! But if it takes abit I wonder if they’ll give me a courtesy car I hope

When i had to take my car into Murray''s for warranty work past the factory warranty they usually did give me a rental. Sometime i had to ask, but I think at times they needed the car overnight.  
 
Ask your dealer if they provide you with a courtesy car for day, due to your work.

I'm sure it will be a lot easier to pick up the phone and call the dealer rather than get the opinion from ebrandon. Nobody here knows the dealer, make of the car, how old, mileage, etc. I mean, hell, nobody here even knows what the repair issue is. Why not talk to the people you bought the car from??  
If you have a GM vehicle, the extended warranty should cover rental vehicle if the repairs take longer than a set time. I thinks it's 4 hours but not sure.

You may have paid for replacement coverage, or it even might be included BUT they're not going to remind you of that out of the goodness of their hearts-you have to know for yourself from your paperwork signed at the time of purchase.

you may have declined it when you purchased your extended warrenty, it is a question that is asked.  
 
i have 7 yr bumper to bumper but i declined the loaner vehicle as we have a second car.  
 
so there are choices you would have likely made when you purchased.

A 1 year old car should be under regular warranty yet-nothing to do with your extended warranty-so yes the dealership likely has a courtesy car to loan you while yours is being fixed. Keep in mind you may not be offered a car-but stand up for yourself and suggest that they should give you a loaner to drive.

Our car is always in the shop it seems (definitely got a lemon lol)  
 
Of ALL the times it has been in, they have NEVER given us a courtesy car even though we’ve asked. It’s so annoying. We have either canceled plans or borrowed my FIL’s second vehicle. We now have a second vehicle so it’s not as bad now. They will pickup and drop off my husband though which is nice because the shop is quite a walk from us  
 
One time I did end up renting a van for the day and our insurance company did reimburse us for it though. I can’t remember what percentage but it was good.

You're right...I thought that it might be some useless extra for any reason, but it's only for wrecks.  
 
My bad, but I did not profess to know for sure, only that it might have been a lead to follow.  
 
Why doesn't MPI sell coverage that covers you for any reason?
