Toyota Block Heater Cord Recall

Anyone else upset that Toyota still hasn't released a fix for the block heater cords recall? I called Toyota head office and was told they have no idea when new cords would be available.

I have a recall for replacement part on our Dodge work truck air bag system. Currently they are aware but don't have parts available and won't know when either. It has been going on a couple years now with a letter saying every year a recall is required but don't have parts.

Ya I was pretty surprised when they just cut the cord off. I got the line "we are confident in our product and our ability to withstand Canadian winters" but when it's -50 with the windchill I'd much prefer being able to plug it in. Fingers crossed they have a fix before next winter.

in Manitoba is defined as a vehicle that will start on a day like this without being plugged in.

Toyota Canada will be sending out letters and information packages January 4th to all those affected by the recall. Very likely the block heater cords will be arriving at Precision Toyota shortly after that.

It started this morning no problem (I figured it would), but it can't be easy on a vehicle when the weather is that cold. Glad to hear letters will be sent out the beginning of January!

It may start but a cold start like that without a block heater in use will result in premature wear on your engine.

In the meantime, you can get magnetic block heaters from Canadian tire. While my Toyota always starts, it sure is happier with a warm oil pan.

I doubt many Toyota’s in the recall would have an oil pan that a magnet will stick to. Good thought though. Block heater is a great way to minimize cold start damage. Just because it will start without it does not mean it is a good idea.

Wondering if by chance the atoyota models that have the block heater cord recall for not start, does Toyota cover the boosting and/or towing fees? I don’t drive a Toyota sorry never received the recall letter.

No, they won’t cover anything. I was told it is what it is and that I could always call someone for a boost if it doesn’t start!! Joke, great service Toyota Brandon!

Not sure if it was your friend who told you that but it's 100% incorrect. If your vehicle is missing the block heater because of the recall and you require a boost... Toyota will absolutely cover the cost. Probably a good idea to get all the proper info before you post on here.
