I am looking into buying an older vehicle that has undergone a complete color change. The current owner does not know the paint code or the industry name for the color used.  
 
Is it possible and, if so, difficult for a shop to color match without a name or a code?  
 
What area shop would the Westman car folks recommend if such work needed to be done?

That’s a tough one. Unless it’s a pretty unique colour it will be nearly impossible to match. Your best case would be to trace back to the owner or shop that painted it.

I would suggest going to Spectrom 9th and McTavish or Chase Auto Body 1508 Park St

Actually, any decent body shop should have equipment for colour matching. Even with factory paint, and factory codes, body shops will compare what the spec dictates to the actual car, as paint gradually changes colour over the years due to fading, UV etc. So no, colour matching shouldn't be a major problem. Just make sure if they do any sample painting to ensure the match, that you look at in natural light, as colours can look and come out a bit different to what you expect if you checked them under fluorescent light.

There may be hope after all.

Went out of business. No longer on 9th and mctavish. Now a finishmaster. They sell car cleaning supplies, polishes, and chemicals

Spectrum Coatings was sold to FinishMaster. Nothing else has changed. Still supply everything needed for autobody repairs and painting, industrial painting, and car detailing. Address still same at 7-601 9th street.  
 
If color is a factory color it can be matched. If color is custom that makes it harder to match.

Same staff and have added some new staff as well,

But yes any painter that knows what they are doing will be able to paint match. Some places are much better then others but the places recommended would be an excellent place to start!
