I am in the market for a new car and am really looking at the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.  
 
If you own a Crosstrek, or Subaru, would you buy one again?  
 
Where do you have it serviced - can it be done locally?

I don’t own one….. but I would love to own one. Have friends that do great vehicles. The dealership in Winnipeg doesn’t have the best reviews ( one of them). Also watch our for any windshield repaired. A dealership in Brandon did replace it once but said in the future the dealership needs to do that…. Because of all the sensors etc. I think good solid vehicles….

But I have worked on lots of Subaru’s when I was a mechanic.  
They make a solid, reliable vehicle that is fun to drive. Parts, especially 4wd shafts can be expensive but a well treated and maintained Subaru will typically give little trouble.  
Lack of local dealerships here is an issue and you have to decide your own comfort level with that. If you find a good friendly local shop to look after it for you then you likely will be fine.

You read about known Subaru issues, i.e. head gasket leaking, etc. they seem to be specific years and models related, a lot of information can be found on this forum https://forums.redflagdeals.com/automotive-f40/

I had read very conflicting and concerning things online, and in particular "negative" reviews about the dealership(s) in Winnipeg. I think I am going to stick with local vehicles until they get a Subaru dealership here because I think I will become frustrated if I have to constantly have to run to Winnipeg for recalls, etc.

And I love it. I get oil changes at great Canadian oil. Any recalls or service work I take it to Winnipeg. One Subaru dealership is awful but the other one is amazing. Toyota changed my windshield just last week. Subaru had to calibrate the eyesight but it was a nice trip to wpg to get shopping done. You definitely won’t regret purchasing a Subaru

We bought our first Crosstreck in 2013 and loved it so much that we purchased another new one in 2021!  
 
We usually do routine maintenance at our local garage or Canadian tire., but do take them to Winnipeg for larger maintenance items. The dealership has been great to work with and no complaints with either them or Subaru in general. Yes, the new model has more features and electronics but I imagine that would be true in any new car model.  
 
I would highly recommend them.....you won’t be disappointed! Absolutely outstanding in the winter too!

long time owner here. Mine is older so probably not much help to you.Mine has over 300,000 km on it! But i will say that i have loved mine in almost every way.Especially the full time AWD(best out there)i communte and can make it through anything!! Most parts have lasted longer than other vehicle brands ive owned.BUT.. they had a few years of engine manufacturing there the head gaskets were weak. ive had mine replaced 2 times over the years. aside from that i love it. Mine still looks and runs awesome.Whenever the day comes when its time for a new car..ill would get another one in a heartbeat. And as far as service goes ..trust me..take it to Shilo Automotive! They know Subaru like no one else around here.
