electronic engine tuner

I am curious to know if anyone has bought those electronic engine tuners that you plug into the port under the dash to change the settings in the computer to get better mileage? I know the diesel ones seem to make a difference but has anyone put one on a 5.3 Chevy? They price out around $350 on ebay, so I am leary to spend the coin if they don't give a return.
I would like to hear all opinions and places around Brandon that sell them so that I could talk face to face with the sellers.
