Solicitors using Classifieds

I recently had an item for sale in the EBrandon classifieds and received an email from a local business offering to sell my item for me for a consignment fee. I am not sure if this is ethical or what the classifieds are for. I really don't think businesses should be trying to get leads from the classifieds but perhaps I'm wrong and over reacting. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it seem right or are they taking advantage of EBrandon.
