Mechanic's Challenge:88 Ford Ranger

I am experiencing the traditional stalling,hesitation,& misfiring on a 1988 Ford Ranger 2.9l V-6 which I recently purchased.The truck runs great for a while,then loses power,stalls out for awhile,then goes again.
According to GOOGLE,this is a common problem,but a number of electronic ignition components may cause problems:
Ignition module
Coil
Deteriorated insulation on wires,causing temporary grounding out
Plus lots of others
If you have experience with these vehicles,or have one for parts,let me know before I start buying a bunch of unnecessary parts.
