I purchased a 1990 Cavalier - V6 a month and a half ago. It strted having "issues" after I drove it a few times. It would not idle for more than 4min. Then it would start up again no problem. Just not idle - not that I am big on idling except when it is -40 ish. Then it would just not start sometimes after you had been driving it. Say you made 3 or 4 stops around town then went to start it - well no go. ( not overheating either) It was acting like it had no spark - it would turn over but no spark. I spoke to the mechanic who had done work on it - It has a new fuel pump, wiring checked and new injectors. I myself, just recently pulled the command start off and replaced the fuel filter. Still acting up. Went to start it this morning and it started, coughed and spit for a few seconds and quit, started it again and same thing - third time it acted like it had no spark - turning over but not firing. My mother had this car last Sat. went to 4 different places - each time shutting the car off.(had to - probably wouldn't idle) Started again fine. Then on the 5th time - no spark. We came back about an hour later with "reinforcements" - I tried it and she fired up on the first try. ??????  
I do have to say when you get it started and running - it runs great - purrs right along. There is more.... I sent this car to the mechanic for a week just after Christmas for him to drive to work and home to see what it was doing. It ran fine for him the whole week !!! Maddening.... So does anyone out there have any ideas ??? I have been asking everyone I meet.  
By the way the big issue with this is that I have to drive 1HR to get to work. Cannot be stranded at work - no one else comes this way. (out in the boonies)
