Can I euthanize my car?
5/19/2010 at 8:07 AM
I've had a car for five and a half years, she's now 10 years old and she's always been good to me. I've never had a problem other than regular maintenance (oil changes, brake pads, etc.) or small car accidents that only damaged the body.
Well within the past 6 monnths, she's given up on life. I guess she's getting to that age where things are starting to break down... or just randomly happen to her. For example, the heater quit this winter ($200), the brake system had to be completely replaced ($500), I just put a new battery in it ($100), a headlight went out, so those just got replaced, the door doesn't close tight, so the hinges need replacing ($400), the window doesn't close tight, the power steering leaks, the radio light is burned out, someone hit my bumper in a parking lot and drove off... and then this morning my windshield got huge rock thrown at and now has a volleyball-sized crack in it... ($200 deductable)
At what point do you give up on a car? How do you know when it's cost more than it's worth? And how do you get rid of it at this point?
