I am currently the very happy owner of a 2014 Kia Sportage. I am not looking to change my vehicle and am not looking for smartass answer to my question. Which is this:  
 
When hooked up to my car blue tooth, I am able to make / receive phone calls. When I tap the verbal command button and say "SMS" the reply given is "SMS. This feature is currently unavailable".  
 
I would like to know if other Kia owners have had the same problem, if they have been able to fix it themselves and how they were able to fix it.

I have a 2011 Sorento and love it. I have a bad habit of losing my phone connection - because of something I have done - and the staff at the Kia dealership in Brandon fixes it for me. They are awesome and it only takes them a minute to do it.

I had a 2011 sorrento too and it was great. I downsized to the sportage for reasons i wont say for fear of scrutiny. Anyhow, the feature worked on that vehicle which which was great. But i cant get it to connect.  
 
I fooked online and found what looks like a solution which is a lack of MAP Software on my phone. It can be downloaded but i can't find that either.

You should delete the Bluetooth our phone and the try pairing it again. Happens a lot.

I have 2 new vehicles (not Kia) that are both fully equipped with the hands free calling systems/text messaging capability. My vehicles will read me a text but will not permit me to respond unless I use Siri. Which works....it all still goes through the Bluetooth so I never do have to touch the phone We have been told by both companies that this feature is fully functional in the U.S. But Canadian mobile carriers are not up to speed...not sure if that answers your question or just raises more. Cheers.

My vehicles also say "text messaging not available" when I use the verbal command. Good luck.

I don't think voice SMS is available for many vehicles, including the KIA vehicles.
