Hello guys, I just want to find out how long to drive to Calgary and what is the minimum gas consumption one should expect.  
Like how many liters of gas to Calgary from Brandon

1120km to Calgary. If you get 10 litres/100km average = 112 litres of fuel. Likely going to take about 11 hours with a stop or two.

yup its about an 10-11 hour drive with a few quick stops but fuel consumption really depends on your car

Between 50 and 500 litres, depending on what you drive.

Predominate west winds and the gradual uphill grade going to Alberta will cost you mileage... On the way back you'll have a tailwind and it's all downhill ,so to speak, so you'll get better mileage returning

I do the drive every couple of weeks for work. I drive a smallish hatchback, not too loaded, and average $60 for gas one way.

Yeah I've paid $60 one way too in a '99 Grand Am.

Wow. $60.00 to Calgary is 58 MPG. ??

I drive to Calgary at least twice a year and it takes me almost 14 hours but then I don't exceed the speed limit and I stop at Tim's in Moosomin, Regina, Swift Current, and Brooks plus buy gas once in Medicine Hat so that consumes some time.  
 
On my last drive to Calgary (last summer) there were 4 adults in the car and the trunk was loaded - used A/C almost all day and the gas cost was $90 - drive a 2013 Altima and calculated that I was getting 48 mpg - by the way that car is one of the best I've ever driven - so comfortable.

Um...I drove 5 days ago. I'll do it again in 2 days. Not sure what you drive, but I know my gas budget and how much it actually costs me in my subcompact.

but that means well over 50mpg and not many vehicles will do that on that trip.

I am not in disbelief! I just think it's really impressive! It would cost me $70.85 to fill my 65 litre tank at $1.09 per litre. I would get between 700-800 km out of that tank. I drive a 2007 Ford Fusion. To drive 1,100 km on about 60 litres of fuel is incredible mileage!

It's a great car! 11 years old and the mileage has actually gotten better with time. Can't complain about that!

We used to be able to roll into Medicine Hat on fumes from Brandon. One tank of gas (unless there was a bad head wind)....that drive is so much more pleasant with the twinned highways.  
 
Really depends on what you are driving, the winds, etc.  
 
If you have a Costco card, it is nice to pay far less for your gas in Regina....

Yes, the real total for fuel comes once you have re-filled the car to full at your destination. Don't know of many vehicles capable of 58MPG, especially at 110km/hr.

There are lots of vehicles capable of high mileages, but for most people, that is not a priority when they buy their vehicle.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head.  
It's easy to leave Brandon with a full tank of gas and then put $60 on your way there and claim it cost you $60 to get to Calgary. Meanwhile your gas tank is sitting at 1/4 full.

Nice condescension. Care to mansplain to the scientist how to do basic math?  
 
I do the drive nearly weekly. With the gas jump of last week, we may be up to $65 one way but not above that. I'm sorry you bought a gas guzzler, but some of us used gas consumption as the main criterion when we were buying our cars.

Wasn't meant to be condescending. My apologies. Just wondering what make, model and year can get to Calgary on $60.00? Who knows, I may purchase one in the future.

I'm curious bryology101 what make and model of car you have as well as we do a lot of travelling and would be interested in something that is a little more fuel friendly.

1000-1200km per tank depending on how I drive. Doing 120-135km/hr in the U.S. on a trip last weekend I averaged 5.5l/100km city and hwy combined.  
 
It's not impossible to get 45-50mpg with cars these days...gas or diesel...or more if you drive the speed limit.

Aside from some hybrids, VW TDI's are nearly the only vehicles that will routinely realize over 50mpg on the highway.

I drive a 2005 Toyota Echo (hatchback model).  
 
We actually have two of them- one we bought back in 2004 new, and one we picked up used last year that was low mileage. We've put a LOT of kilometers on them, and maintenance as well as fuel costs have been low. I think the biggest maintenance costs have been windshield replacements from all the damn gravel being spat up from trailers on the highway.  
 
Interestingly, of the two, the manual transmission is the one that does better on gas, contrary to what I expected from the initial information sheets. It will regularly get below 5L/100 km on the highway (around 4.5 on average), whereas the automatic gets more like 5.5L/100 km. Neither has cruise control, sadly (but both have A/C- phew!).  
 
On a 45L tank, I get around 800 km mark before getting the gas light on (again, highway. I do almost no city driving).  
 
In short, I'm pretty sure it's magic. It's also why I never fly anywhere- why fly when I can get all four of us to Alberta for $30 each round trip?

116 litres get me to calgary.....27 miles per gallon. It was a 1992 chevy sport utility blazer 4x4
