You weren't aware of the fine print in the Highway Traffic Act? In brief, it just says that on all new vehicles being sold to someone with a Winnipeg or Brandon address, the turn signal lever is a $5,000 option. Of course, being the cheapskates we are, we normally decline that expensive option. The Act goes on to say that if the lever is purchased, and the owner actually uses the lever, even if incorrectly, he or she is automatically absolved of all blame in any ensuing accident. The $5000 that is paid for each lever goes into a special fund to compensate victims of people who just don't know how to signal.
