    Are they still a good I idea to have? I have a newer truck with remote start and was wondering if I should get one.

    You shouldn't need one!!!  
    I drive a 2007 GMC with factory command start and have never had a problem.  
    Make sure your charging system is functioning properly and the block heater works!  
    Also make sure you run the vehicle long enough to charge the battery, this may require a drive on the highway once and a while

    I still use a battery blanket as when it is really cold your battery only has half its power. A warm battery also more readily accepts a charge. I have seen where a car facing -40 on the highway had a battery that did not fully charge due to the windchill and had to be boosted even though it had been parked less than an hour.
