Hey everyone,just wondering if you know what i have to do...i believe i took my automatic lights off and had them stay on all night christmas eve,dead as a doornail christmas morning,charged it fully until today,car starts but only runs for about 5 seconds then shuts itself down. Message on panel says "powering down", then "engine disabled",security padlock light on,does this everytime you try to start,i tried the "leave key on for like 12 minutes``,too no avail.Wondering what i do,i expect i have to have my car towed to a garage and they reset with a machine of some type,its a 2009 Pontiac G5 if that matters,thanks for any info on what i have to do,

Please excuse me if this is a real stupid suggestion - but have you checked out what the automotive manual in your glove compartment says about the lights and symbols? It might tell you what you have to do in response to the messages.

``ENGINE DISABLED  
This message displays if the starting of the engine is disabled. Have your vehicle serviced by your dealer/retailer immediately''

I was working on my Chev truck and disconnected my battery. When I reinstalled the battery had the same symptoms. My Mechanic Friend suggested I disconnect the battery wait a few min and reconnect. I did and the truck healed itself.  
 
You lost power. When you charged the battery the security immobiliser is giving you issues. Try disconnecting the battery let the system reset itself.  
 
Not sure if it will solve your problem but it wouldn't cost you too much.

Read this post to my mechanic husband - suggested that your battery might be frozen. Can you take it out and put it in a warm place to thaw? Alternator would be putting too much voltage into the dead battery causing the error message. Good luck.

Follow the steps and it should correct itself

To disconnect the battery for anywhere between 30 seconds to a half an hour. I cant remember off the top if my head if it is the P-ROM, but long story short, one of the modules in your vehicles memory resets after the power is turned off, and resets its parameters to its normal function when the power is turned on again. If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have to take the vehicle in to the shop to have the memory "flashed" which will reset your MIL dashboard lights. I am no mechanic by any means, but I remember these small bits of info from a course I had taken. Hope they help.
