Position Title: Employment Counsellor
Reports To: Program Coordinator
Purpose of the Position
The Employment Counsellor manages a caseload and ensures clients obtain and maintain integrated work experiences and/or employment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage client caseloads and maintain accurate and up-to-date client files, including assessments, progress notes, service plans, and communications.
- Deliver pre-employment services and employment workshops, including resume writing, interview preparation, workplace etiquette, communication skills, and time management.
- Match clients to appropriate job opportunities that align with their abilities, interests, and goals.
- Arrange job interviews, accompany clients when necessary, and assist with interview preparation and follow-up.
- Support clients in developing the soft skills necessary for workplace success, including confidence, teamwork, and responsibility.
- Develop individualized supports to promote job success
- Break down job functions so individuals understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Stay informed about current best practices in supported employment and disability inclusion.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for program development and service improvement.
- Advocate for systemic change that promotes full community inclusion and equal employment opportunities for people living with disabilities.
- Participate in community outreach, public education, and employer events to promote inclusive employment and raise awareness of Career Connections? services.
- Provide program participants with information about the labour market.
- Identifies possible learning barriers and determines most suitable training methods for each supported employee.
- Assist clients in identifying employment interests and skills
- Develop individualized supports to promote job success
- Identify and arrange assistive devices, equipment and fixtures to enhance the job performance of each worker
- Using task analysis, plan and implement training plans for selected worksites
- Provide written reports as required
- Maintain follow-up with clients and employers to monitor progress and satisfaction
- Provide ongoing coaching to address workplace issues, interpersonal dynamics, or changes in job expectations
- Support clients in developing self-advocacy and problem-solving skills
- Serve as a liaison between the employer and the client, promoting open communication and conflict resolution
- Offer referrals to external supports if additional barriers to employment arise (e.g., mental health, transportation, housing)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post Secondary education or combination of other relevant education, training, and experience
- Familiarity of local job market and applicable community resources
- Ability to complete reports and maintain proper records.
- Ability to communicate and provide instructions in plain language
- Knowledge of various disabilities and their impact on employment or employment-related barriers
- Valid driver?s license
- Valid CPR, First Aid
- Clear criminal records and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Work Schedule:?Monday to Fridays- 30 hours per week
Salary: $22.97/hour Per Collective Agreement (MGEU Local 142)
