Folks looking to have the renowned work of Brandon’s own Weiming Zhao displayed on their wall have a fantastic new option this week with the introduction of a 2021 calendar focusing an assortment of locally focused scenes.
In total spread out across the 12 months of the year plus rear cover of “Brandon - My Collection of Pride and Inspiration” are 13 re-prints of Weiming plein air oil painting representations of landscapes from around Brandon. Among 13 featured scenes hand-picked by the local artist are the Riverbank Discovery Centre, Downtown’s skyline, the historic former Downtown Firehall and Brandon University’s Clark Hall. Each month is accompanied by an art quote to live by.
The initiative is a collaboration between Zhao and Brandon’s Webber Printing.
Zhao will this summer mark 30 years in Brandon after a life-changing relocation to to the city from his native China in 1991. Over that time it’s become a common scene to come across the artist in the great outdoors throughout the region at work on his latest plein air painting.
A 4th generation family business under the guidance of Steve Webber, Webber Printing last year celebrated 100 years of printing in the city. Originally started as a traditional print-shop, the business has over the years expanded into offering a wide assortment of print and promotional products.
The calendars, which measure 17x11 inches, are sold at a cost of $20 plus tax. One dollar from each calendar sale goes to Brandon’s local United Way. Orders are made by phone through Webber Printing (204-728-1302), who are able to arrange for same-day local curbside pickup. Mailing within and outside of the city is also available for an additional charge.
