DEVELOPMENT OFFICER ? Southwest Planning District
Municipalities of Brenda-Waskada, Deloraine-Winchester, Two Borders & Town of Melita
The Southwest Planning District is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Development Officer. This flexible, as-needed position (Monday - Friday, 8:30am? 4:30pm) offers an excellent opportunity to work in the field of land use planning with the potential to grow into a broader role.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Southwest Planning District Board, the Development Officer is responsible for administering the District?s Development Plan and municipal zoning by-laws. This role ensures compliance with The Planning Act and local regulations while providing essential support and guidance to the public and member municipalities.
In addition to planning responsibilities, the successful candidate will work alongside the current Building Inspector. Over time, there is the opportunity for this position to transition into a combined Development Officer and Building Inspector role, subject to training and Board approval.
Key Responsibilities include:

Administer development permits, zoning reviews, and planning applications.

Provide advice and guidance to the public, municipal councils, and the Board.
?
Review and process conditional use, variance, and zoning by-law amendment applications.
?
Conduct site visits and ensure development compliance with all regulations.
?
Collaborate with the current Building Inspector to learn inspection procedures and building standards.
?
Attend Board meetings, public hearings, and council meetings as required.
?
Investigate and issue orders for non-compliant or unauthorized developments.
?
Maintain accurate and complete records of planning activities and enforcement.
?
Liaise with provincial and municipal departments on development and permitting matters.
?

Qualifications:
?
High school diploma (or equivalent).
?
Valid Class 5 driver?s license with a clean driving record.
?
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
?
Willingness to attend training sessions and conferences as approved by the Board.
?
Experience in land use planning, building inspection, or a related field is considered an asset.
