Safe and Warm Shelter Assist Staff
Samaritan House Ministries Inc. is currently seeking casual Safe and Warm Assist workers for the Safe and Warm Shelter.
Duties:
- Review the Communications Book
- Complete kitchen tasks following proper Safe Food Handling guidelines
- Prepare and serve beverages and food for guests
- Follow and maintain set guidelines within the space to ensure the safety and wellbeing of guests and co-workers
- Foster a healthy, respectful, and psychologically supported work environment
- Lead by example of how all should be within the space to provide mentoring cues to guests
- As a team, ensure the kitchen and workspace is clean and prepared for the next shift including general cleaning duties, cleaning bathrooms, taking out garbage, etc.
- Stock all supplies for next shift
- Provide feedback to Support Staff regarding any guest concerns
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment when necessary such as masks, gloves
- Communicate all concerns, including duties that were left uncompleted, to the Support Worker for them to update the Communications Book
- Other duties as assigned
- Checking beds for drugs, needles, bugs, etc.
- Bring bins of personal possessions to clients as requested
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an Emergency Shelter, Health Care Aide, or other experience working with vulnerable persons is an asset
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality internally and externally in the community
- Familiar with de-escalation is preferred (willing to train)
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid certification or willing to train
- Must provide a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Persons and Child Abuse Check upon hiring
