Facilities & Projects Lead
Position Summary
The Facilities & Projects Lead is responsible for supporting the ongoing maintenance, repair, improvement, and general upkeep of Oak Island Resort & Golf. This role is hands-on and requires a practical, mechanically inclined individual who can complete a wide variety of maintenance tasks, assist with resort improvements, support projects, and help ensure the property is safe, clean, functional, and well-presented for guests, staff, and ownership.
This position requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to take on a broad range of duties as operational needs change throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform general repairs and maintenance throughout the resort, campground, marina, golf course, clubhouse, and related facilities.
- Complete minor carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, flooring, fencing, decking, and general building repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical, electrical, water, and facility-related issues where qualified and safe to do so.
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, work areas, storage areas, and maintenance facilities in a clean and organized manner.
- Respond to maintenance requests from management, staff, and guests in a timely and professional manner.
Facilities & Grounds Support
- Assist with upkeep of buildings, washrooms, cabins, campsites, docks, signage, parking areas, roads, pathways, and common areas.
- Support seasonal opening and closing activities, including inspections, repairs, winterization, and preparation of facilities.
- Assist with grounds maintenance, cleanup, garbage removal, material handling, and general resort presentation.
- Help identify hazards, deficiencies, repairs, or improvements required across the property.
Projects
- Assist with planning and completing resort improvement projects as assigned.
- Support construction, renovation, landscaping, signage, utility, marina, campground, clubhouse, and golf course improvement projects.
- Coordinate materials, tools, equipment, and supplies required to complete assigned work.
- Work with management, contractors, suppliers, and other staff to help projects stay organized, safe, and on schedule.
- Provide practical input on repair methods, project sequencing, and cost-effective solutions.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Oak Island Resort & Golf safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Use proper personal protective equipment and ensure work is completed safely.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions to management.
- Ensure work areas are left safe, clean, and secure at the end of each task.
- Operate equipment only when trained, authorized, and competent to do so.
Guest & Staff Support
- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude when interacting with guests, staff, contractors, and suppliers.
- Assist with urgent operational needs during busy periods, events, emergencies, or service interruptions.
- Help create a positive guest experience by ensuring facilities are functional, clean, and well-maintained.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in maintenance, construction, carpentry, facilities, property management, or a similar hands-on role.
- Strong general repair and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and small machinery safely.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude.
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, working outdoors, and performing manual labour.
- Valid driver?s licence preferred.
- Experience operating equipment such as UTVs, trailers, tractors, skid steers, mowers, or similar equipment is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required during peak season, emergencies, or projects.
- The role may involve physically demanding work, lifting, working at heights, working around equipment, and responding to time-sensitive maintenance issues.
Reporting Structure
The Facilities & Projects Lead reports to the Managing Partner or designate and works closely with resort management, maintenance staff, golf course staff, campground staff, marina staff, contractors, and suppliers.
Employment Type
Year-round or seasonal employment may be considered depending on operational needs. Hours of work may vary based on seasonality, project requirements, guest demand, and resort operations.
Position objective
The objective of this role is to ensure Oak Island Resort & Golf remains safe, functional, attractive, and well-maintained while supporting ongoing improvements and projects that enhance the guest experience and long-term value of the property.
