Beginner looking for tips and advice on using metal detectors for hobby enjoyment.  
 
1. Suggested models? (open to mid range prices)  
2. Best places to purchase/best prices (or does anyone have one for sale?)  
3. Is permission needed from city to use in parks, etc?  
4. Interesting stories and things you have found?  
5. What are some of the most interesting areas you have explored? (fields/rivers & streams/parks/beaches.etc)  
 
I have done my research and watched a lot of videos to get the basic understanding.

I find this of interest except i would want something easily portable for travelling..would walk the beaches.. spoke to one guy in grand caymen has paid for his trip with a find and on some trips just nothin of value

check out the minelab go series. very portable.

I’ve used various models for work and my opinion is to save your money. Many of the “high tech, high range” so called awesome ones really do a poor job. I’ve used cheap ones and really expensive ones. It really depends on what exactly you are trying to pick up or find but some are better than others. I don’t think you’d find many treasures if you are just randomly looking, but hey, you could surprise me!
