Important note about thread "bumping"
10/25/2009 at 1:55 PM
Just a quick but important note that isn't targetted at anyone in particular...
In recent days, we've seen a bit more thread "bumping" creeping into discussions. For anyone that isn't familiar, bumping is basically making a very quick post on a thread that's fallen down the list of active topics for the purpose of bringing it back up to the top of the active topics list.
I'd like to ask that we please try to stay away from bumping as it will start to get very confusing to your average person following the site. So many of us are used to the idea of the active topics list showing which topics have new posts, and it can be a touch frustrating to click on a discussion and find out that the new post was only a 3 or 4 word bump. The other thing to keep in mind is that a post that's "bump-worthy" to one person isn't necessarily that way for the next person.
If there's a particular thread that you feel deserves to be back up the list, the best approach would be to make a meaningful on-topic post that adds to the discussion and doesn't appear to be there only for the purpose of bumping the thread back up.
Thanks for your co-operation in making eBrandon as good a place as possible for all as it continues to grow!
