Important note about thread bumping
11/23/2009 at 8:02 AM
Hi all,
Just a quick note relating to some of the recent threads promoting what are great and very worthwhile causes.
For the discussion forums portion of the site, we have to maintain a "no bumping" policy... which basically asks that posts aren't made to a discussion only to bump it back up the active discussion list/try to keep it at the top of the list. A post should contribute a new thought that progresses a discussion. If it's a thread where you're asked to vote for something, it's cool to post "I voted" but please do so only once in a given thread.... but if you're involved with a cause, please let thoughts/posts of everyone else on eBrandon determine whether or not a thread is popular.
There are awesome causes that deserve a ton of attention, but with only 13 Active Discussion slots on the front page we have to try to be respecting of the fact that when folks click on a thread that's at the top of the list, they normally expect that a discussion has progressed and that someone has added something new that continues the line of discussion. If we end up with 4 or 5 discussions that are continually bumped along, it makes it frustrating for folks to pick through that list on the front page. If we end up with 13, the Active Discussions tab on the front page ends up completely losing its intent.. to give people an idea which discussions are evolving right now.
For any cause, I'm always interested in finding additional ways for eBrandon to help out. If you're finding that a discussion isn't naturally staying Active and that you aren't getting the amount of attention you'd like, please drop me a note and we'll explore other ways the site can be used to help get you noticed.
Thank you to all for your understanding and co-operation
