Note about "adoption" classified ad placed yesterday
3/9/2010 at 5:00 PM
Hi all,
Just a note about an ad that you may have noticed in the classifieds over the past day..
As anyone that's used the site over the past (almost) five years can attest to, eBrandon does not in any way condone the placement of ads which are unlawful in nature. Complaints are taken seriously and dealt with promptly as appropriate.
Among the 2940 classified ads submitted over the past week was an ad was placed yesterday (March 8) by someone originating out-of-province whereby that out-of-province person was allegedly offering a child for adoption. Complaints specific to that ad were received recently (including one from a concerned newspaper reporter) and the ad has since been removed as it is not of the nature that is permitted on eBrandon.
Because every single correspondance that goes out through the classifieds is specific about being suspicious about and reporting very rare out-of-province ad posters (unlike most classified sites, eBrandon's automated posting system filters almost all of them out), I doubt anyone gave the poster of that particular ad the time of day... but it of course goes without saying to avoid any communication with them. We are working with the appropriate authorities to ensure that this situation is dealt with as appropriate.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to submit complaints about ads that they feel are not appropriate for this site... it really is a testament to how successful the classifieds are when you have as many folks submitting ad complaints as I receive any time an inappropriate ad makes it up. For anyone that hasn't made use of this option, there's a "Report this" link on every ad that goes up on the site.
