In Rossburn I finished grade 8 there the kids had a prom which I didn't go. As for my grade 12 grad, it wasn't a big deal.

It really matter?? A few hundred bucks isn't much . As for taking time off for kindergarten grad . Who the f cares . The person is not making money . You don't have to pay that person . If people have a problem with all this grads then don't get involved. Simple as that. Then you won't have anything to bitch about.

It matters because I think of the parents who can't afford those things, single parents, low income families. It's all become overboard.

Most single parents low income whatever live within their means and manage as they go along. I am sure they don't think that kids in grade 8 should not celebrate a grade 8 Grad because it's become too "expensive". Most people just work with whatever budget they can. Like me for example I couldn't afford to attend my grade 12 grad. I didn't have money for a dress or even to buy a dinner ticket. So I didn't attend. Never once did I think that the rest of my graduating class didn't deserve to spend money on their grads and receive grad gifts from family and friends.

I drove by new era the other day and I saw young girls in these strapless sparkling grad dresses...must of cost a fortune and I couldn't believe it was just grade 8's...I can understand dressing like that when your 17/18 and actually finishing school but not for grade 8....everyone passes elementary school but in high school that's an actual accomplishment. It is very ridiculous.

life is about choices and circumstances.  
 
yeah there is no way even if I had the money I'd waste it on something silly like a grade 8 grad. But if that's your families choice then so be it. Same as some families can and choose to do pizza day, and book orders and field trips- if you have the extra money to spend the do so, but we don't so we won't. Living within your means and the fact you don't get things just because others have them is an important life lesson.
