That's pretty accusatory don't you think? Isn't it possible that it fell out when your got out of the cab or maybe out of your pocket on the way to your house ? Not all cab drivers/cab companies are bad.

I've left stuff in cabs here in Brandon and have always gotten it back. There are other scenarios other than the cab driver taking it. You may have dropped it when getting out and someone found it and took it, it could be in your house, it could have been taken by another passenger, it could have fallen under the seat and the driver couldn't see it.  
 
I would suggest calling the company today and asking them to take a good look around their car. If it's not there, you really can't prove that the driver stole it.

Wwait till your daughter gets locked in the back of the cab then drives away. She didnt have enough cash to cover but wanted to come to the house and get the cash , thats when he flipped out , locked her in , then drove away very aggressively with her still in the vehicle she said take me to the police station in which he never did . He brought her back to the house let her out then followed her in the back yard . She came in Screeming telling us what just happened i went out side in which me and the drive had a sreeming match . I pay for the cab fare. I called the cab company , city of Brandon , Brandon city police told them what happened and was told there's nothing they could do . I told the officer i guess its ok to lock a girl in the back of your car them drive aoround for a bit then bring her back home its all good . The officer didnt have to much of a response to that.

I would think there's just a little more to the above story. Firstly, taking a cab without enough money is the same as stealing. A restaurant wouldn't be very happy if you said "sorry, I only have $8 of my $30 bill". Cab drivers regularly deal with people who say they are "running in to get money" only to take off through a yard and ditch the cab. Of course he wouldn't let her out alone and of course he followed her...she owed him money! I'm betting that this happened late at night and that there was some partying of some kind involved on the part of the daughter. Sounds like the cab driver cut her a break by taking her home and not to the police station, because she could have been charged for stealing had she ended up there. Had the cab driver done something illegal, I'm sure charges would have been brought.

I understand your point about cab drivers being stiffed but I don't think taking a cab without sufficient funds in your purse would be the same as stealing. She knew that when she arrived home she would be able to go inside and come out with the remaining amount owed.  
 
As far as im concerned its getting sketchy for a lone female to enter a cab these days. Apparently scaring a woman is ok with you as long as he didn't violate her body then its legal. Tsk tsk, I hope you never have a daughter. Its sad when people shame the victim.

Sorry, but what is this girl a victim of? I read nothing about an assault taking place? Did I miss something? I'm a female who takes cabs regularly. Even in my partying days, many moons ago, I never had an issue, likely because I never took a cab without money. And yes, I have a daughter.  
 
Based on the posters explanation, all that happened is that the cab driver insisted she pay her bill. Sure he says the cab driver drive her all over, but that makes no sense, so I don't believe it happened that way (though that's likely what the daughter told her parents happened). Why would a cab driver who's already owed money drive all over the place for no reason? He likely went around for a minute trying to discuss with her he needs to be paid, and deciding how to handle it. Sounds like she was acting hysterical for no reason. Cab drivers deal with this crap daily. There is no victim in this scenario.

LH I'm sure this all could have been avoided if your daughter had mentioned to the driver when she first got in that she had no money but that the fare would be paid at the destination. I've called cabs for my son on many occasions and explained to them that he has no money but I will pay the fare when the cab arrives and have never had a problem. If indeed this did go down the way you say then I have to say shame on the driver for locking the girl in the car, this is forceable confinement, and could have been handled much differently as well. The driver could have escorted the girl to the house to begin with and avoided all the drama. Again, if this story is accurate, both sides could have handled it much differently for a positive outcome. To the op, I have to agree that there are many things that could have happened to your wallet besides the driver lifting it. Best to be completely sure before slinging accusations.

Ummm, seriously?!. To take someone without their consent in an attempt to get money, whether owed or not, is considered kidnapping. And considering there is money involved, it's also considered a ransom, if playing your cards right, could even be considered taking a hostage.

I find it interesting how often this is said in posts, seems short of someone getting murdered, there is nothing the cops in Brandon can do.

The original poster clearly says that the taxi driver "locked her in the cab" and sped off. That would have sent me into a panic no matter how far he drove away. Money in the house with a parent or in my gravy dish for safe keeping when I get home is to me equal to having enough to pay in my purse.

There are two sides to every story. Would you like to go to work one day and your employer at the end of your shift say he is not going to pay you? ITs the same way for cab drivers. That money is used to feed their families etc. And it happens more then you think. The person says they will be right back and they never return. So remember next time before you blame a cab driver.

Would the driver have done that to a male rider ? I did mention that he said he would take her to the police station and never did why ???  
I also said I did have a discusion with the driver.

That driver had every right to lock her in and take her to the police station or to lock her in, stay at that location and wait for the cops to arrive. She's lucky he didn't. It wouldn't have been very pleasant for her. Taxi drivers have been driving non-paying passengers to the police station for decades. He probably just drove her a couple of blocks and changed his mind because it wasn't a large enough amount to be worth his time.  
 
No right to hold someone against their will? Try going into Superstore with no money or debit card and breaking open a food item and eating it. Then try telling store security that they have no right to detain you.

Im sorry you lost your wallet, i would like to remind the general public that taxis are public transport. So unlike going for a ride with your friends and being able to go back to that car the next day and find your lost wallet. The taxi would have lots of other people in the car, im sorry to say but if the cabbie said its not there .... then how do you know it is? maybe you lost it elsewhere, maybe the next customer took it. Its like leaving something on the back of the city bus ... you think it will be there the next day ?? To the other thats off on a tangent ..... you should make your own discussion other than ranting on about your problems on anothers discussion! You seriously think what your daughter tells you is 100% the truth all the time? That your daughter does no wrong ? You must have a brain, please try to use it, and understand that your opinion of what your daughter says to you is completely bias !!

If a cabbie did that to my daughter and scared her, I would be EXTREMELY PISSED OFF!!! What gives a driver a right to lock someone in a car and drive around ??
