There used to be a place out near Shilo (Cottonwoods) that did the PADI certifications but they no longer offer classes. Unfortunately, the nearest place to take lessons will be Winnipeg.

They are becoming more rare. There is a place on Henderson Hwy in Winnipeg that offers courses.  
 
Hubby just got his PADI papers while we were on vacation in Ontario, and even then around Toronto there were only two outlets for that big a population.  
 
Scary when you think if you can't do it near home, you may have to use one of the the fly by night operations that are all over the sunshine destinations - then you have no clue if their divers are really safety certified or not.

If you have any plans to go south to dive in Mexico or the Caribbean, I'd recommend you take the PADI online course then do the 4 dives down south. When you start the online training you can pick which dive shop you want to finish the course and do the required dives. I did this a few years back and am glad I did. Turned out I was the only student during that time. My instructor got the safety parts finished in shallow water, I practiced them before each dive, but otherwise my 4 dives were just that, dives. So far, those 4 dives were my best with best photos as well. He showed me a few techniques to get best underwater images, which is his specialty. I'd also recommend in doing some cardio training prior, helps extend some of the dives. Akumal Dive shop Mayan Riviera.
