Good afternoon all,
As anyone that may have tried to check the site over the past few hours will have noticed, we’ve experienced an amount of downtime this morning into early afternoon associated with unplanned server maintenance. Through the process of that maintenance it was discovered that one of eBrandon’s two servers was no longer viable.
As a result all of the site is being moved over to a new server this afternoon. That new server is what you’re reading this message on, so things have already gone quite well in that regard. The great news is that every bit and byte of data from the database is now running off of the new server and is what you are able to read right now. How you access and use the site won’t change in any way with a couple of asterisks over the next day or so:
- if you’re looking at this post, its probably because you’ve found the site at www.ebrandon.ca. As this switchover takes place there may be some people who won’t be able to see the site at www.ebrandon.ca for an hour or two. For anyone in that boat, the identical site can also temporarily be accessed through http://www.ebrandon.net
- there are a lot of pictures associated with classified ads, and it takes a long time for those pictures to be copied onto the new server. As a result, when you go to the classifieds tab you will notice it copying ad pictures back over the course of the next few hours. Through that process some pictures may temporarily be unavailable. The only pictures that may not be available and may require re-uploading are the very few uploaded with ads between 1am and 9am this morning.
- the photos under the photos tab are lower priority than the classifieds photos and will be restored once the classified pictures are finished
- the iPhone app will be temporarily unavailable perhaps into tomorrow as efforts right now are on getting the main website running as smoothly as possible. I will put every effort into getting it up asap and will update later.
Although you shouldn’t otherwise notice it when browsing the site, there’s still a lot of technical behind the scenes stuff that I’ll be doing throughout the day (and hopefully not too far into the night
). It’s possible that as more and more people use the site today that it will introduce minor issues that I’ll be monitoring and adjusting to throughout the day. If you happen to notice a glitch please don’t hesitate to drop me a note through the Contact & Support link at the bottom of the page.
