Yes, they actually have someone hired to watch traffic flow so they can get a train out there to block roadways.

CN has it's headquarters in Montreal. They are getting even with Western Canada for voting Conservative. It's just payback.

These threads are silly, it's CN's property that have the right to run their trains to keep their national schedules on time regardless of the inconvenience of the 50 or so drivers in Brandon Manitoba.

I also do find trains frustrating at times, if i am running late for something. or just being impatient.  
 
BUT, this made me laugh.

Run them at night and then the noise complaints happen! Not sure when they are supposed to run. People need their stuff! Transportation never stops.

That's the thing that most people who complain forget, there's never a "convenient" time to run them but you can bet that damn near everything they own has been on a train at some point in it's existence.

on EB, we are not allowed to complain about them because they were here first, sheesh!!!!  

I wonder if Homer and Thelma, sitting in their buggy in 1935, were lamenting how the CNR trains were holding up traffic at first street. The tracks in Brandon aren't even on the main line where I'm sure the level of traffic is much higher.

imagine the outcry if we had street running trains here like many other cities have. Tampa Bay has a freight train the you share the road with right in Downtown.

Talk is cheap. Start a fundraiser pr stunt stating you want to build 5 overpasses for CN so traffic can flow smoothly at 1st st, 6th st, 18th st. , 26th st and 34th st. It may take 6 years to get build after you raised the $,$$$,$$$ (6 years being the standard how we got a certain bridge on 18th st done!).  
 
Until the Bakken Oil runs dry, there's no need for grain from Kipling Sask. going east or coal from the Estevan area going east, just accept the fact CN can run trains through Brandon whenever they want.  

Those are crazy! The closest I've ever seen to that was a yard track in Winnipeg that went up the middle of a back alley parallel to Wall St. If we had tracks running on the streets in Brandon there would be a collision at least twice each and every day with the drivers we have in town...

those are only a few examples. So when people come on here and make it sound like this is the only place in the world that has to deal with trains in a city, I laugh.  
 
Are they an inconvenience, yes. But until railroads become obsolete, they are not going anywhere.

Move to a city/town that doesn't have trains running through it? **snickers**

some of it is pretty darn awesome. An art show on wheels - and its free!

Actually there used to be a siding that down the back lane between 9th and 10th Street from the CN line to the old Prince Eddie Hotel on Princess and partially remaine in use till the coal dock at Cumming & Dobbie was torn down in the late 80's. Some of the ties remained in place north of MavTavish till they were removed for the construction of the Super Store.  
 
As well there was a siding between Pacific and Rosser Avenue to service the businesses located there, most people now mistake it as a back lane but it was infact a siding last used in the late 70's or early 80's by my memory.  
 
As well there used to be trolley cars and tracks in the city. Many were still in place downtown underneath the asphalt complete with Cobble stones but I believe with reconstruction the last of them have been removed

check out ninth and College, can't get any closer yet in all the years living here I have only witnessed one accident train vs van. And it was the driver of the van who sat on the tracks and didn't move in time for the train.  
 
No one living at this house has ever been late for work due to having to wait for a train to pass.

...to the crossing so that if a train derails , real cheap hamburger can be made  
Whenever possible stay back at least 100 feet so that if the train derails you might survive - I do !
