How serious are you?...

If you you are just doing some odd laps 'til you get tired, then get a membership at the Y and have a workout as well with their fitness room and gym. But if you're somewhat serious in on how many laps with certain types of strokes then use the Sportsplex. The Y is nothing but a "glorified hotel pool" (short and shallow), the 'Plex is at least a regulation 25 meter length pool. The Y has one designated lane with a single dividing lane line (most times), but has to be shared and if you swim outside the lane... you're open game to whatever activities are happening. The 'Plex has the entire deep end (six lanes equal less of chance of a "crowded" swim) set aside for laps most of the time. However, the lane lines are not in during the scheduled lap swim (need to watch the lines on the bottom or swim along the wall to stay straight). The best bang for your buck is the Y with the fitness center, hot tub, and everything else, compared to the 'Plex (unless you're a big racquetball/squash player). But saying that, if you are truly a serious swimmer, then sign up Brandon Bluefins Masters Swimming ran by Malcolm MacKinney that's starting back up in September for adult swimmers held at the Sportsplex (search the Brandon Bluefins website for more info). He's a great guy! (taught my kids in Bluefins for competitive swims)
Personally, my kids and I like the 'Plex over the Y when it comes to swimming. Did both pools for years. All started at the Y, but eventually went over to the other simply because they don't like the atmosphere and the people at the Y. Can't say that will happen to any one else, but since the new building... they hate swimming there. This is coming from eight and a ten year old kids who want to swim, not just float and play. So this is the opinion from my kids who are "real swimmers"... Often, there's more room for the "serious swimmers", they have the proper size tank and there is less distractions on deck and in the water (fewer ignorant people/swimmers).
Just our opinion, we could be wrong.
