When pricing items, do you generally put the price you want or a price higher than what you want and then negotiate? Either way, do you also state "firm" or "OBO" in the ad?  
 
I've personally starting listing things higher than I want. So for example, if I am willing to sell it for $40, I list it for $50. I used to put the price I wanted, with "firm", but wouldn't get replies. I'd repost 30 days later without the word "firm" and get replies.  
 
When I'm looking to buy something though, I don't often negotiate with someone. I wonder how many people are like me, causing me to lose out on sales by listing higher than I actually am willing to sell for.  
 
I am guessing it's one of those things that comes down to "you can't please everyone!"

I always ask more than I want to get for what I'm selling. If I want $100 for something I'll ask $125.  
 
I always negotiate when I'm buying or selling as well, and I've made out better on both deals too. Sold for $10 more than my bottom dollar, and bought for $10 less than my bottom dollar.

I have bought quite a few items on ebrandon and have always paid the asking price. Being from out of town I only contact the seller if I'm very serious about purchasing. So far everyone has agreed to hold the item at least until next day and I've always have purchased it. Usually they are large items and I leave a deposit until we can pick it up. If there is an item I'm interested in and find the price too high I don't bother contacting the seller. And when they are kind enough to hold it if for me I don't feel right offering less and if I offer less they might not hold it for me.

I always check to see if there are similar items before posting and price it close to that range and keep it firm.  
 
That way when I get the "can you go lower?" or have someone haggling: I can tell them that mine is currently the lowest price on the site already.

I skip ads with 'make me an offer'  
I skip ads with 'firm'  
I skip with bad or small pictures that you can't see  
I skip ads with little details about the product or size detail  
I don't bother on ads with 'good condition' detail only with a price just lower than a store or sale store price
