Woke up this morning with such intense back spasms that I threw up from the pain. This is part of underlying back issues that I’ve had for years but today was the worst ever and still is . Basically moving an inch at a time . What do you recommend to stop the pain or at least help on the spasms ?

Have you ever tried a T.E.N.S. machine? Like Dr. Ho? Can't use it if you have a pacemaker, but otherwise it is safe. They do sell the locally in the Mall at Showcase, and they even some machines so you can try them out. Really helps with my arthritis pain. Yours is from a different source, but it may very well help! Note, the cost starts at around $100, or more depending on what one you decide on. Upside is your not constantly on medicine.

voltarin which is available over the counter at the drug store. If spasms occur on a regular basis then get a prescription from your doctor for Gabapentin - believe me this drug works. I went from 2-3 Charlie horses (leg spasms) per day to none within 10 days. And haven't had a spasm since and that was 4 years ago.

The same issue. Time and rest is the only thing that helps me. Doc gave me a pres:cription of 2 different types of pills, only helped me sleep. My muscle spasms in my back knocked me to the ground and took my breath away. It’s not fun and I sympathize with you.

Chiropractor - always worked for me.

I can't take most prescription pain killers due to an allergy to filler ingredients. What works for me is vitamins. Seriously, went through hand surgery using vitamins and a few ibuprofen liquid gels.  
I use 3000 ui vitamin D3 (3×1000 ui liquid gels) and 2 Jamieson brand Calcuim Magnesuim + zinc. Can take every hour if need be. It takes about two hours to feel a decrease in pain. Which is why I took a 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours. By 48 hrs, my pain was 100% gone after surgey (no ibuprofen by that point). After that, I slowly was able to expand the time between taking the next dose of vitamins.  
Over about 3 months, I only needed to take vitamins about once a week (doing physio and regular work). Then it was only occasionally if I over-worked my hand. Now it is probably less than once every 3 months.  
I know there are a lot of nay-sayers. But I also know this has worked for several people I know who have gone through surgery or awaiting surgery and were tired of being on Tramacet or similar prescription painkillers.

Need to go to your Dr. and tell him / her what is going on . Some advice on here might be good and some might be just as bad . The Dr will probably get an xray which will lead to a MRI. After that you will have a better idea what is taking place . Why do I need to tell people this . Your visit with the Dr. is already paid for in your taxes - It wont cost you a cent .

When I hurt my back so bad last summer I went to the chiropractor then used my TENS machine. I am allergic to most NSAIDS (pills) but can still use diclofenec gel (prescription strength) -that helps. So does Tiger Balm.
