I recently had back surgery in Regina and see my doctor in 6 weeks, then he retires. My GP referred me to a local neurosurgeon, who rejected the referral. I’m in a medically induced limbo with no where to turn for help. Any suggestions?

There a reason given for the rejection?

I didn’t think there was a local neurosurgeon. If it’s a neurosurgeon you need, see if your GP will refer you to Dr. Neil Berrington at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Good luck!

Grandmama is correct, there is no neurosurgeon in Brandon. Dr deMuelenaere is an Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr Berrington and Dr Dhaliwal are neurosurgeons in Winnipeg. If getting a referral to one of them, your doctor sends the referral to the Spine Clinic. It is triaged, and you will likely have an assessment by a Physiotherapist. They then decide if you are best seen by Ortho, Neurosurgery, or another provider.

None whatsoever and I didn’t think to ask

I though he was the local neurosurgeon and he was also recommended by my second opinion neurosurgeon in Regina.
