In the box retailer I was at today, there were more than 50 people at the check outs alone. The parking lot was packed and that store looked like it always does. I only need to grab a few necessities but it was crazy to see how many families were out shopping as though nothing has changed. I wish people would begin to take it seriously so things could go back to normal.

Note that the chart now has the Prairie Mountain Health region at 3 cases... 2 probable and 1 confirmed.

It seems all other Provinces are doing wide scale testing on their people - which of course is resulting in a much higher number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. Saskatchewan which has a similar population as Manitoba has over 100 confirmed cases and already more then one death. Their number of confirmed cases is rising hourly. Here in Manitoba we are told that there is insufficient resources to do wide scale testing, so we will have to be satisfied with selective testing targeting out of country travelers only, which results in a much lower number of confirmed cases. Its time this Government got their act together and found the resources to do wide spread testing . Until the Health Dept. starts taking this seriously and doing wide scale testing, people are not going to take the precautions required. Sask. has closed all their eating establishments except for take-out either via delivery or pick-up. Stores are strictly enforcing a 10 person shopper - and may be also closing in the next week except for pick-up or delivery orders.

The CBC article that Delpmb posted explains testing limitations pretty well. As a health care provider, I have a basic understanding of epidemiology, but trust that epidemiologists are experts.

I have now heard two stories from people I know about customers coming to their work who explained that they just came back from the States while either not self-isolating or who self-isolated for a week before they "got bored". Thank you so much for posting! Well stated! I am a retail employee who has to be at work. My coworkers and I thank you for pointing this out. I personally talked to three people in one day that were supposed to be self isolating due to travel.... the actual offenders number is very high. It’s disgusting.

I went out for bread and milk this morning around 8:30am

It amazes me the amount of people that have NO IDEA about social distancing and actually give zero **** about other peoples safety.

There are clear signs printed EVERYWHERE, yet a lot of people aren't even following the recommendations! Theres tape on the floor and the distances needed while checking out. While waiting in line I had to tell the person behind me to stand back in the required spot!

Also why are families out and about shopping? Can one person from the household not go an do shopping?

The longer it takes everyone to listen the longer those of us that are already staying home will have to do so.

Social Distancing means not spending time with anyone outside of your home. It means making a solo trip to the grocery store WHEN NEEDED to get ESSENTIALS. Not going out to eat, not going to browse through stores, not going over to your friends house - it means you stay home and you do your part to keep your community safe and healthy. "
Just to speak to Kims, I've been told they are no longer offering dine-in.. only takeout and delivery. Customers will at times be waiting inside for takeout with socially distant spacing. I know your vehicle comment was a more general one, but from Kims' perspective on top of takeout customers one may see vehicles for staff and delivery drivers.

retailers that remain open are there for emergency needs food and urgent repairs... stop taking your whole family shopping or walking through our stores,, paint clothes and bulding supplies are not emergency needs

With today's (Saturday) 25 new probable cases, the provincial link noted above is back to showing a Manitoba-wide number of 64. Up until late this morning, as per above on the Provincial page showed a regional breakdown that i:ncluded 3 cases in Prairie Mountain (2 probable, 1 confirmed). That was before today's 25 new probable.

I understand that they're transitioning to a new reporting system and that these kinds of updates will be more consistent next week.

Superstore not a good option for in store shopping

I was at superstore this morning and it was not good! Too many people and because of how they gave roped off the registers for a queue line people shopping are way too close! I couldn’t wait to get out of there!
Sobeys and coop are much better options by far if you have to go out at all! Be safe everyone!

For anyone that doubts the importance of social distancing, from https://www.covid19manitoba.ca this myth response I've pasted below is important to understand:

Myth: "We’re going a little overboard with the social distancing"

Response: "NO. What we ALL do now will determine how much - or how little - COVID-19 impacts our lives and our community. Social distancing, as part of our 3P’s, is the only way of “flattening the curve”; reducing the spread, the risk to our loved ones, and the burden on our health care system. Closing schools and daycares, cancelling mass gatherings and working from home as much as possible are all evidence-based ways to reduce and limit the chances the virus has to spread. "

Thank you to those who push back on those who might be spreading misinformation and/or have a misunderstanding of the facts, no matter where it is that they're spreading it. It's important during this time to trust the medical and health professionals and directives from them as we work as a community to make this the toughest-possible environment for a level of community spread of the virus that could overburden the health care system and have serious consequences in this community.
Its worth nothing that we have 3 confirmed cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region as of today. Community spread hasn't yet been confirmed through identified cases and investigations into them to-date, though its talked about as essentially an inevitability.

The things I saw today blew me away frankly. Like other people in the thread have been saying, there is a total disregard for other people's personal space happening. I am disappointed but not surprised.

I'm personally lucky enough that I am able to stay home and self isolate. So today is the first day that I have left my home in over a week, and it was to get essential groceries. Here's a short (but not exhaustive!) list of baffling things I saw today:

1. A line at Dairy Queen on 18th. (I also love a Blizzard but I feel like now is not the time. I'll save mine for when we get through this pandemic).
2. A line of people waiting to be let into RBC. All standing directly side by side.
3. Two families running into each other at the front door of Walmart. They all decided that exchanging hugs was a good idea.
4. Customers reaching around store employees to pick products off the shelf.

I am finding myself increasingly exasperated by the sheer recklessness of it all. People are straight up dying and yet some are not getting the picture. I'm glad I don't have to be leaving the house right now because if I was an employee at one of these places I would have gotten an ulcer by now.

WestJet flight WS3256 from Calgary to Brandon on March 15 (the late flight) has been added to the list of flights with confirmed COVID-19 cases as per the province. I was on that flight and sitting in the affected area. I’ve already called healthlinks and they said I’m asymptomatic since it’s been almost 14 days with zero symptoms.

I am just speculating, but it seems that so far they are avoiding testing people unless they present severe symptoms, mostly so that if they need to go to the hospital the workers will know how to go about treating these patients. In part this is due to shortages in testing materials.

I agree that you would think that they would want to test to make sure, but ultimately there are different priorities currently. Whether or not someone has mild/asymptomatic Covid isn't the most important thing right now, because we are all supposed to be staying home regardless, especially people who have been exposed.

So it’s been 13 days since this flight came in and all the advice is to quarantine for 14 days. So in the last 13 days these people have just been going about the community spreading whatever it is they have to spread. Great. So if anyone was affected 13 days ago, it’s a little late don’t you think.

When I called MB healthlinks tonight they said I do not need to be tested cause I’m not experiencing or have experienced any symptoms since I came home on March 15th. Also my family hasn’t showed any symptoms either since too. I have been practicing social distancing as much as possible since returning but I have been going to work. I have always been particular in always keeping my hands clean wherever I go.

I've talked to another passenger from the flight that say they definitely did self-isolate after arriving and they have yet to see any symptoms in themselves or their household. It was no secret on the 15th that COVID-19 was a global pandemic and many (I'll hope most) travellers were cognizant of that fact (it was already being taken seriously enough in Manitoba that the announcement that schools were going to be closed came on the 13th) .

Totally agree that the more there are tests the more we know, but if it was widespread at this exact point in time I suspect you would still be seeing that show up in some way in higher frequency in the testing that is done. But at the same time thats more than one passenger now that learned today through the link about 13 days later that a confirmed COVID-19 case was on the flight... so it does appear that there have been at least some potentially exposed people in the community that for about 13 days were living not knowing that they were potentially exposed.
It should be emphasized that as of yesterday provincial officials in daily briefings were not yet confirming community spread in the province, though they have been saying that it is expected and have been preparing for it, hence why social distancing measures have been in place for quite some time now. Assumptions and panic will never solve anything and will really only make it harder to make rational decisions, but at the very least this should be a wakeup call to anyone that was brushing off physical distancing measures that are in place to make it as difficult as possible for spread. 3 P's, no ifs, ands or buts! https://www.covid19manitoba.ca

Wow.. thats sad that healthlink said no testing. Every single person on that plane should be tested whether they have symptoms or not!

Dont they say a lot have it, but they dont have symtpoms? But those that symptomatic can easily pass it onto others?

On another note, Sobeys west end is only allowing one per household to do shopping! I would think the other Sobeys are the same. Thats a plus and lets hope every other grocery store follows.

It’s here and community spread will be occurring. We are no different than anywhere else. Lack of community testing is why MB numbers have been so low. Majority of tests being conducted for only those who have symptoms that had travelled.

One more flight that I have to stress is NOT on the list that the province has put out and so is NOT known to have had symptomatic cases, but under the circumstance if I was on the flight I would want to know out of an abundance of caution.

On that same list of flights with confirmed COVID-19 cases is a March 12 WS 122 from Vancouver to Calgary that arrived at Calgary at 2:11pm MDT at gate A24
The Brandon March 12 WS3243 flight to Calgary arrived at 2:12pm MDT (one minuter later than the YVR-YYC flight) at gate A19

Have to be very cautious about assumptions and being that long ago we’re clear of the 14 day period. This is very different from being on a flight with a confirmed case, but perhaps the info will be of value to those who were on the flight who would take the necessary steps if they felt justified.

I was on the flight and called health links. I found them very helpful and informative. I was worried that I was a “carrier” and didn’t know it. A walking time bomb per say. I have zero symptoms but what if I was a carrier? People need to know...Right? What I didn’t understand (and was explained to me very patiently) was that being a carrier means that I could have carried the virus longer than most but then would developer the virus in 14 day. IF I was carrying the virus I would have eventually got sick in some way...big or small and it would show itself within the 14 days(just making myself clear). This is why I didn’t need to be tested. I’m at day 14 today and have experienced zero symptoms so in my opinion I haven’t waisted any resources in getting tested because there was/is no need. I appreciated the young ladies time and very much value this information.

Iceman, Covid is spread by droplet - it is not airborne (like diseases such as TB or measles). That's why it would be a waste of resources to test everyone on every flight that had one person test positive for it.

Important update regarding an additional flight from Calgary to Brandon that the province is saying had a confirmed symptomatic COVID-19 case.

The provincial flights page has now been updated with an entry for a March 14th Calgary to Brandon flight, WS3256. This was the late flight, just like the March 15th flight noted yesterday. In this case they specifically mention seat 12A for March 14th. If you were on this flight or know someone that was please see flight link at https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/flights.html for more details.

for those that are not paying attention to the guide lines that are being set to deal with this pandemic. Please do the right thing and sign your licence or put a tag around your neck and family members stating that you do not want to be ventilated so it makes it easier for the health care people to know who they can pull the plug on when demand is greater than what is available. I don't know, but PMH probably doesn't have a lot. have a nice day, do the right thing. Rethink what is essential.

Don't consider myself old, but am far from young, have no underlying conditions that I kno of. Would gladly give up my respirator to save a young person, Children are our future. And yes I told my kids.
Ironically, had this conversation with a close friend the other day, won't blink an eye to save a young person.
Yes I feel I am healthy but and young (ish), to some I guess. Ok Ok old (ish) to some I guess.
To reiterate, children are our future.

What I don't understand about the situation on air flights is that they focus on the rows near the person known to be infected. That's fine. But just because someone wasn't 'near enough' to that person during the flight (droplet range) doesn't mean they might not have been that close at the gate. We all know how crowded and close we are when we're waiting on those benches to board our flights.
