Hi everyone,  
 
I recently read a very troubling article about a local health care business in the Brandon Sun. This business has staff members visit seniors in their homes, and also has a few assisted living facilities. They were cited for at least 17 health care infractions, including not using appropriate disinfectants, not using the dishwasher for dishes, and failing to socially distance. In some instances, inspectors were even refused entry. The business owner was also recently in the news for lying about staff's COVID results and precautions.  
 
My question to everyone is, how do we protect our seniors from businesses that fail to properly care for our elders? What changes do we need to see, and can possibly assist with, on a community level? Care homes have been in the spotlight lately due to COVID, and I'm very saddened to see our own seniors mistreated in our community. I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.

I'm curious as to why anyone would get in trouble for not using a dishwasher for dishes? I own a dish washer but it's just taking up space and an unused appliance. I prefer to hand wash. Why is this even an infraction?

Dishwashers must have the proper cleaners used for dishes, proper sanitation rinse and must above all " must consistently maintain proper water temperature at all times. If the dishwasher does not meet these standards it can not be used. You must then hand wash dishes in 3 steps as set out by Health department standards.  
I know this because I have worked in several kitchens and been present when the Health inspector has done the inspections.

Then the health region had better start checking up on their own homecare workers who washdishes without using soap.  
Also PMH better clean their own house before they go looking in others .  
The cleaning of hospitals is atrocious.
