If only it were that simple

TDCAU said "I don't think masks should be or need to be mandated. You are far likelier to catch covid from a family member or someone you're in regular close proximity with than the maskless wonder passing you in an aisle in a store. Anyone who is symptomatic should be staying away from public places anyway.
If someone passes covid on to a coworker, it would likely happen mask or not as the mask would've been handled/adjusted/saturated throughout the shift. We should still be practicing social distancing and regular hand washing whenever possible.
It sometimes feels like we're being conditioned to view each other as nothing but big flesh bags of bacteria. The anger is showing. "
" Anyone who is symptomatic should be staying away from public places anyway. "
If people actually did that, we wouldn't be in this predicament we're currently in. While the majority of recent cases are from contacts (although not necessarily "close contacts"), 10% or more are not. There's also a cluster in Steinbach that was in the news that's likely community transmission.
When community transmission becomes prelevant, that will spell disaster. That's when you start getting doubling every few days, and the system is overwhelmed. Masking, while imperfect, has been shown to slow the spread. That's the best we can do for right now.
It's such a simple thing to do... why wouldn't we do it?
"One hairstylist had worked with 56 clients at the salon while the second one had seen 84 customers and seven coworkers. The stylists went to the salon for about eight days ending on May 20.
[...]
This month, a study published in the Lancet medical journal found people should stay six feet apart and wear face coverings. It said the chance of transmission without a face mask was 17.4%, while that fell to 3.1% when a mask was worn."
