I have a couple of friends who want to get the vaccine - not in the age group for the astrazeneka vaccine - so need to get the vaccine at the Manitoba Room but the problem is they have major mobility issues and could not walk from their car in the parking lot into the Manitoba Room - one friend in particular desperately needs a knee replacement - can walk maybe 20 steps then needs to sit for 10 minutes for the pain to subside. This friend has a car but does not drive anymore as it is too difficult to get her leg from the gas to brake in time so luckily she has friends that do shopping for her.  
 
Just wondering if it is possible or feasible for a wheelchair or two to be available in the Manitoba Room for people such as our friend - one of her friends could go inside and get the chair for her and wheel her in for the shot.  
 
I have no idea who to contact on her behalf - Manitoba Health or PMH or if a service club could be given permission to place wheelchairs at the vaccination site. Perhaps there are e-brandon people that have more insight or contacts than I do and could make an inquiry for people such as our friend. I'm sure there are many people who need assistance such as a wheelchair to access the vaccination site.  
 
At this point her only hope is that maybe by late summer or fall that the vaccinators will be allowed to give the shot to people in their suites or that at some point a drive-through site is set up.

Though I do agree that it would be handy to have one there (maybe its a cleanliness issue? Has to be wiped down?).  
 
I do believe you can borrow or rent a wheelchair from Red Cross. There may be other places as well you can rent from such as the places in town that sell them. You could check with Rolling Spokes, Home Health Care pharmacy etc. It may be helpful to your friend to have a wheelchair right now anyway to get around easier, get to medical apts etc. You could also check with your friends physician where to go, typically a wheelchair is "fit" by an occupational therapist so they could point you in the right direction to borrow or rent.
