Maybe it's the money from all the fines  
 
For people in rural communities that don't want to go too far outside their community to get the vaccine, opportunity is still limited. However, maybe this will give extra incentive for people to make sure they take the few opportunities they are presented.

...a lotto Max ticket your chances are way better. A lottery ticket when your chances are almost 0 and none is not much of an incentive. Who knows maybe it might work.

why can't 5hey just be adults and do thier part. It seems nobody wants to do anything anymore unless there is something in it for them. Selfish people. Do it for yourself, your parents, the people around you. Isn't that enough

that’s what society has become. Has to be something in it for them to do the right thing.

I was in line in a big box grocery store yesterday. I asked the lady who had the cart ahead of me (she would have been in her 60's) if she had her second jab yet..she said "no, and I didn't get the first one either" she said, "once everyone is vaccinated I'll be immune" I was dumbfounded at her comment...  
 
someone told me Jimmy Kimmel said about the antivaccers : "If you don't contribute to the gift, you shouldn't get to sign the card"

It’s simple.  
Unless there is a valid medical reason Covid vaccination should be compulsory. Freedom of movement again in the future and drastically reduced possibility of becoming seriously ill should be incentive enough as well the knowledge that one is helping to protect others.  
For those that refuse vaccination there should be restricted access to travel, basic services, schooling , shopping and work opportunities .

A precious poster said “why can’t they just be adults and do their part”, well, isn’t this open to ages 12+ and comes with scholarship chances? Frankly, if I was a teen, and there was even a remote chance at free money, you bet I’d get the vaccine.  
Adults might not care, but younger people will. It’s a great incentive aimed at the younger crowd.

I totally agree, people want to cling to the argument that it’s freedom of choice. Well you can choose to do the right thing, or you can choose to live under restrictions and wearing a mask forever then. It’s not about infringing on your “individual rights” it’s about getting the virus under control so we can get back to normal. If you CHOOSE not to be a part of the solution, then you choose to continue living with the problem. Vaccine passports (if enforced) would be all the incentives people need. Us vaccinated people go back to normal life while unvaccinated continue to live under restrictions and mask mandates. YOUR CHOICE

I have both shots already and I understand everyone has their own opinion. It is sad when you watch the press conferences and the comment about how people are refusing to get shots because of the prov. govt. or because they believe it is all a hoax. Your decision either way affects so many other people and they are right you don't know what can happen but are you really willing to take the chance. It is sad that so many other places did not need a lottery to convince people to get the shot they got the shot to be safe and get their province back to normal.  
And hey if you win the $$ then enjoy it because you deserved and earned it!!!

I was checking vaccine percentages a few days ago and it looked like we were on par with other provinces. Most of the people who I've talked to that haven't gotten it are scared... hesitant. Not believing covid is a hoax. But not trusting a new vaccine that has no long term studies either. The estimation for the covid vaccine, for the general population to reach herd immunity is somewhere between 70 and 85 percent (which is why a lot of other provinces are using those numbers in their reopening plan).  
 
Israel had a plan like a couple other posters mentioned - people who weren't vaccinated couldn't do certain things. They're at about 81% of their adult population vaccinated now and have lifted those bans. But I definitely understand the hesitancy - the news articles that popped up while I was looking are talking about a possible link between a vaccine and myocarditis when I was just trying to find their vaccination rate.

In what’s been a very negative year and a half and everyone has the same opportunity to enter a lottery just for taking care of themselves and getting “free vaccines” and those who can’t for documented medical reasons are also entered. Those against it can have their name removed from the lottery.  
Scholarships great idea every student would be happy to receive and any adult would love to win $100K regardless of your age .  
I agree we shouldn’t need an incentive to get a vaccines that are free, and can save our lives and lives of others, but if it works all the better for us , our economy ,and our healthcare system.  
Funding for economic reopening will  
happen and as usual healthcare funding has always been an issue and will unfortunately continue to be an issue.  
 
So let’s just be happy for a small light at the end of the “COVID tunnel “ and wish everyone good health and good luck in the draw.

85% vaccination will not be nearly enough. Any large animal vet will tell you for example that when vaccinating a Cattle herd against disease a rate of 98% or higher is needed to achieve herd immunity.  
People are no different than cattle ( worse in many respects due to social lives, traveling and living habits) so a very high rate of full vaccination is imperative.

Why would you feel its okay to ask a person a personal medical question at a big box store checkout?

It’s the “normal conversation “ theses days no longer about “the weather” now it is the subject people ask about …

“So what do you think of the heat , we need some rain? “

“ So have you got your vaccines yet?”  
 
Hear it all the time in line or from workers in store just a normal question these days.

For example, measles needs about 95% of the population vaccinated. Polio was only 80%. Health officials are estimating for covid that rate is between 70 and 80 percent (fully vaccinated, not just one dose). Or some are saying 80 to 90% with the new variants. Herd immunity does not mean that the virus is completely wiped out - just that it's very controlled and in a state of decline. They think they've hit herd immunity in San Francisco at 68% fully vaccinated.

Maybe that why 98% is needed for herd immunity?  
People are not cattle, although some people act worse than animals, lol

My cattle range on native pasture year round. People live nose to nose in towns and cities. Far less healthy conditions.

cattle don't mingle with each other? Any field I've seen them in they stick pretty close to one and other.  
There's two in my household and we're not nose to nose and I'm the type of person who likes to keep my distance from strangers, even before covid.

IMO, if you choose not to get the vaccine then you should forgo Covid related healthcare. Break your arm, we’ll fix ya, Covid, nope.

They have a herd mentality yes , that’s a cow but usually isolated in their own herd, on their own farm, clean water and healthy carefully balanced diets and plenty of exercise.  
Most people have an extreme herd mentality, herding in the same stores, restaurants, bars , destinations, unhealthy lifestyles , high stress levels and poor exercise routines and regularly mixing with people from other areas.  
Like you I avoid people and crowds whenever possible but many people are not that way . That is chiefly why covid has spread through the population and around the earth so quickly, why it will remain in circulation for a long time to come and why high vaccination levels are required .

Weather isn't a personal question, but medical information is.  
 
Don't think I'd appreciate a stranger asking me this in a grocery store lineup.

I agree it is personal but I think people asking for the most part are polite and genuine. We are all in this COVID together.  
You can always answer yes or no or just reply .. Thats personal .

If someone asked me if I had my vaccination, I would tell them to mind their own business. Maybe not quite as nice as that.

So with your logic, smokers should forgo cancer related healthcare. People that don't exercise and don't eat right should forgo diabetic and heart related healthcare.

I get your fustration, but why should those who are unvaxed have to live under restrictions and mask mandates and everyone vaxed gets to go back to normal? That's causing division and that those who aren't vaxed are less human and to be treated like that? There are people who are antivax, but there are people who have legit reasons for not getting the shot. So why punish them? What kind of mentality is it when we view our neighbor as less than ourself because of a vax? I was told that the shot only prevents you from serious illness and possible death and hospitalization and doesn't prevent you from catching covid or passing it on. And if those who are vaxed are protected from catching covid or passing it on (like the old school vax would do) then what does it matter if someone isn't vaxed if you are immune to covid? A unvaxed person isn't a threat then. If I am wrong then please correct me, I'm not arguing,I just noticed a couple of comments that seem to view unvaxed as lesser than or to be treated in that way, and it's no different than shaming those who can't mask up legitly. How would you feel if you couldn't take the shot and were being addressed in that way? On a happier note I sure hope we can open up alot more with summer coming and the plans to do that slowly! Hopefully between those who do have the shot and those who are naturally immune (from having had covid) we can be back to as much normal as possible

Unless one has a known allergy to vaccinations there is no reason to not get vaccinated against covid 19, it’s the smart thing to do for oneself and for everyone around them.  
There is little evidence that having been infected with covid would afford you any natural immunity at all whereas vaccination gives you a known and proven immunity with much less risk.  
The safest thing to do is to get fully vaccinated if you are able because this is the only way that we will get this virus under some semblance of control.

Well, here’s my logic. If someone I care about is vulnerable and has done everything to stay safe from Covid including isolating and getting the vaccine and then it comes down to a doctor having to decide who gets a ventilator or care and they choose an anti vaxing dope who thinks they’re smarter than scientists, then I’d be extremely pissed. How would you feel?
