GhOsTID said "Maybe along side that cycle the province could have been strengthening the medical system to a usable state. The vaccine is not mandatory, tying the reopening to something that is not mandatory and only a reduction technique is stupid in my opinion. The flaw you pointed out is not the virus but the garbage health care system Manitobans have been conditioned to put up with, the metric to tell what state that health care system is in is NOT vaccination rates. vaccinations can reduce the number of symptomatic or severe outcomes but if your system is garbage even a reduction isn't enough especially with variants.. PS, ask nurses, specifically rural nurses about their thoughts on Shared Health MB, RHA mismanagement(agency nursing for instance, not just the fact they have been improperly used rather than hiring needed staff but they could skirt some of the restrictions around working in multiple facilities) etc.
I have my first shot and am waiting patiently for my second shot but the idea of the government forcing or coercing people into getting a shot they truly don't want is absurd to me. I think those people are idiots but it's their beliefs and values and so long as they're not telling me what to do I have no desire to tell them what to do. I also have no delusions that having a population vaccinated makes the virus go away like some people seem to have. "
We could have the best healthcare system in the world ( in my experience we already have one of the best) and it wouldn’t be able to cope with high surging case loads.
We have to reduce infection and case loads and the way to achieve that is to adhere to covid regulations and to get as many people fully vaccinated as possible.
We know that many infectious diseases and viruses have been controlled very effectively in the past through mass vaccination programs and often only resurface when those vaccination programs are allowed to lapse.
We should also pour more resources into educating the public about the safety and effectiveness of vaccination and the proven history of vaccination success.
