So if Saskatchewan is opening on one side of us and Ontario on the other side is loosening it’s restrictions what’s wrong with Manitoba? Please don’t tell me it’s the Southern part of the province holding us back because they don’t believe in Covid cause if that’s the case then something needs to be done about this. Why should the rest of us who followed the rules be paying for the ones that don’t? It will just drag on forever if this is what’s happening.

If they choose to be unvaccinated then maybe they should have to pay for their own COVID related healthcare, that way those of us who know better can move on with our lives! Their choices to ignore reality and exercise their “right to choose” can then choose between being vaccinated or paying for it. Let’s see what they “choose” then! People are suffering mentally, financially, physically all because of these shut downs imposed on us and the majority should NOT have to suffer because of the blind few that can’t see past themselves.

Already announced that there will be an announcement on lessening restrictions this week likely Wednesday which seems to be the normal day for announcements.  
Manitoba reached 55% 2nd doses vaccinated but they need the 55% to be through 2 week period. They also reached %for 1rst doses needed for next phase.

I agree with jjames those who don’t believe that Covid is real should pay for their own expenses when they get it and they will get it. Some of their own relatives and some of their own congregation members have died from Covid and still they deny it exists. There are no words to describe this mentality. The rest of us should not have to deal with this.

This is getting very concerning. Don't we pay high, very high, taxes so we can access healthcare equally? Next you'll be asking people who have a car crash to pay their own healthcare expenses, "because they drove too fast" , or, over-weight people who get diabetes to pay their own expenses, "because the should have eaten less".

I am one of the few people that is okay with our slow re-opening. Some of the other countries and provinces have opened way too fast with too many cases and too few vaccinations.  
 
Be glad Manitoba is not ok with letting our residents die and get sick because people want to get back to the way things were.

Nope. Car crashes and diabetes absolutely nothing to do with this conversation at all. The people that don’t believe Covid exists are putting themselves above the healthcare system so why should they have healthcare when they get sick? It’s one or the other . Your choice 100 % if you don’t want the Covid vaccine but then you suffer the consequences when you get it. Pretty straightforward and simple. If I don’t want to quit smoking and the doctor told me that I should then there’s nobody to blame but me when I get lung cancer. Sometimes you just have to recognize and tip your hat to science or none of us would even be here. What would the world have been like without the polio vaccine back in the 50s? Just wait and see what it will be like when the people who refused to listen to the healthcare people and have no vaccine card! Life could get pretty complicated for those that don’t have it.

You've actually just contradicted yourself. So if you get lung cancer because you didn't quit smoking, then you alone should cover any medical costs?

I agree with happy hour the one sensible voice of reason here. Other countries and provinces are opening too fast and it will come back to bite us all in the rear end yet!

Who pays taxes in this province are (and should be) covered by our health care system. That said, personally I feel that if one chooses to not attempt to prevent the illness they should indeed take a backseat to someone who has taken the required precautions. If there is one ventilator and those two options the doctors have to make the decision. Interesting. I wonder how they would choose.  
 
Those with Diabetes really need to make an attempt to stay away from the Coke, potato chips, fast food, etc. as their choices are causing the disease in many of the patients let alone burdening the system with their lifetime medical care as a result. And yes, I am aware that many take this disease seriously and it is genetic in a great many patients, but I am also well aware of the adult onset and poor lifestyle choices as I personally know dozens, yes dozens, of people who fit in this category. Just a thought.

Speaking of biting the rear end, a cautionary tale for opening too early.

Australia too, locked for three weeks due to variants. These guys were in party mode with months of rock concerts, beachs and the like.

Article notes hospitalizations have not increased. It will be interesting to see if they ever do, or if we will see cases with little to no hospitalizations and death now that vaccines are common.

All I can say in the end is that if people choose not to get vaccinated then it’s a choice that they made. The wrong one unfortunately for all of us others who followed the rules. And even worse, Covid will find those who made that choice. It’s already happening all over again.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Hospitalizations usually lag 2-4 weeks. Hopefully there won't be many.  
 
Long Covid is a serious concern though - I've seen that as many as 30% of infections result in Long Covid in some form. I don't know how accurate that is or if it applies across age groups.

What about people who drink alcohol? They suffer from ill effects too and again a burden on our free health care system?  
 
Also you mention diabetes, one thing I learned by going to classes with my dad was that red meat, especially if BBQed was a bigger trigger than eating sugar.

Our third wave was late so our changes will be later just the way it is. We are focusing on getting goals met on vaccinations.  
 
there are places that lifted restrictions too soon and now have a 4th wave going on as they didn't insist on vaccinations rates to be taken into account.  
 
As a human rights lawyer says it is a new world and was perhaps not accepted as a appropriate right in the past may become one in the future to protect the population.  
 
Many provinces or countries are having fully vaccinated people to have fuller rights than unvaccinated people unless a doctor not that allows you to get a card that says thats the reason not the actual medical issue just saying that's way you aren't able to be vaccinated. And there are very few medical reasons that you can't get a vaccine. Then there will be an exception for an Established Religion the faith doesn't allow you to get vaccinated.  
 
Note this doesn't mean anti-vacs can have an exemption card.  
 
As to Calgary stampede inside events have to fully vaccinated to be allowed in; or be tested at the ticket gate with the fast tester before being allowed to attend. Not sure if masks are still required.

Agree with lots of posts rather be opening at a slower pace and be safe. I don’t want to see another lockdown.
