I don't think the consent form has that particular clause in it. I don't recall ever reading anything like that in all the consent forms I've signed. They are very clear generally that there are risks associated with it (as part of informed consent), but beyond that I wouldn't interpret anything into that.
The laws in Canada are different from the US etc that somewhat protects the drug companies from lawsuits. The burden of proof is much higher, and you have to demonstrate willful negligence I believe. It helps here that we have better social safety nets and the health care cost burden isn't the same. We have a child that had serious adverse reactions to routine vaccines in infancy, and it never occurred to us to sue the manufacturer as all our costs were covered via social programming, and we continue to benefit from those same programs.
