sunzu said "Everyone has their own opinion on this pandemic and how it should or shouldn’t be handled. Everyone is certainly entitled absolutely. When these opinions start to wade into the edges of hate speech I feel like I must respond. To hear my fellow Canadians, Manitobans, Brandonites say that unvaccinated don’t deserve the same health care as vaccinated I can hardly believe it! Did you have these same “values” 2 years ago? Have you always felt that people who smoke should go to the back of the line for cancer care? Alcoholics have no business receiving health care for the myriad of problems alcohol causes? I could go on but you understand what I’m getting at. This pandemic has caused so many issues on society financial, emotional and mental. However when I hear these type of remarks made toward our fellow humans I feel like the downfall of society isn’t that far away. I hope I’m wrong. "
By the equivalencies you're trying to draw I'll go with the assumption you fall into the category of the vaccine hesitant. The topic of the thread is the fact that 73% of Manitoba cases, 79% of hospitalizations and 100% of ICU cases are in those not fully vaccinated despite being a much smaller portion of the population. I hope you've taken the time to read through posts and linked resources to understand where concerns are rooted. Even though our fourth wave is starting weeks later than other Western provinces, the percentages above are similar to what has led Alberta’s health care system to buckle and Saskatchewan’s to be not far behind. It would be naive to think we aren’t similarly at risk.
I do appreciate that you didn’t try to go into spreading the kind of stuff that's widely accepted as misinformation. I shouldn’t speak for others, but it’s my nature to hope the best for another human being in mind as well as body. At the same time unless your own stance is based on consultation with/assessment by your doctor based on circumstances that might make your health situation unique, “can’t we all just get along” doesn’t apply here and there’s no guarantee it ever will. Asking for respect for a stance that’s putting your community, our children and our medical system at risk in contradiction with public health guidance is a non-starter. Even if not everyone is going to go as far as suggesting denying care as a solution, you shouldnt be surprised by tension over that choice in other folks' words perhaps forever even if there’s hope you’ll one day realize how you’ve been taken advantage of by the disinfo campaigns that have been ongoing.
The good thing is it still isn't too late to do as public health is asking and do ones own part in protecting the community and our health care system. If there's a concern relating to your own personal health, absolutely book in with a doc to discuss. If that avenue isn't easily available to you you might start your journey with a call into Health Links at 1 888 315 9257
Going back to the thread topic... what are your thoughts on the fact that the pandemic is all but over if the unvaccinated simply do as asked? In stead we have 73% of Manitoba cases, 79% of hospitalizations and 100% of ICU cases in those not fully vaccinated and if we follow Alberta’s lead are weeks away from lost lives directly from Covid and indirectly from unavailability of beds, surgeons and docs to care for those with other ailments?
