Unvaccinated Covid patients and hospitals

Can someone explain why unvaccinated people with Covid go to the hospital? I accept that they don't believe Covid is dangerous and don't trust the vaccine or medical professionals, So why then are they going to the hospital when they get sick? I can't seem to wrap my mind around this and am looking to see if anyone can explain it to me. I am vaccinated but some of my friends are not so we agree to disagree.

That it is due to the fact that when they find themselves unable to breathe, they want someone to help them-and the hospital still seems like the place to get help. Mind you, some of them do not believe even then that they have covid, so I suppose it is acceptable to go to hospital for flu/pneumonia/bronchitis or whatever they believe they do have.

For me, I would think that if they do not believe in the vaccine (big pharma is so evil, right?) then they wouldn't believe in all the other medications that big pharma provides? It really does not make sense.

Yes, I too am double vaxxed, and I will be getting my booster soon, so I cannot say for sure why the unvaxxed do what they do.

Because they are selfish and they refuse to follow public health guidelines introduced for their own safety.

Cancelling surgeries

I imagine we are at extremes now as far as cancelling surgeries, but just from past experience I was bumped twice for surgery, didn’t have any problems with it because the other cases were emergency.
Thought I should add, I was suffering, but likely wasn’t going to die.

As always, lots of resources on vaccines in Manitoba at https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/index.html for those that still require it. With the news this week of a new variant it’s very possible that it will soon be more important than ever to one's self, family, friends and community to be fully vaccinated.

Probably same way some one who smokes a pack a day goes to the hospital when they get sick.

When some one drinks a bottle a day Goes to the hospital when body starts shutting Down.

When person jabs a needle on their arm an wants help when they are overdosing.

There is many reasons people are choosing to not be vaccinated. But if they get sick are they supposed to just lay there and die.

I wish there was a way they could easily prove were a person contracted covid from. I would be very interested to see transmition chains through vaccinated and non vaccinated. I fear that there is so much confidence behind the vaccine and less restrictions when you are in higher risk situations (travel, large gatherings) that this is were all the transmitions are coming From.

Addictions and mental health are diseases but they are not in the same category as this pandemic.

ICU’s are not overrun with alcoholics, smokers or drug addicts. They are not passing their disease onto other people in the community, as well as the doctors and nurses. They are not risking other people’s lives everyday.

I’d never support denying care or even discouraging people from getting what our medical system is there for.
As far as the last part, another sort of red herring to misdirect from the core issue rather than confront the facts and guidance that public health officials and medically educated professionals have been stressing for months. Not just Manitoba, but data from Alberta, Sask, Ontario, Quebec makes it clear. Despite the unvaccinated being a significantly smaller percent of the population they are contributing to a seriously disproportionate amount of cases for that population size and especially hospitalizations and ICU beds. That’s without considering how many fewer cases there would be in the vaccinated if the virus wasn’t in unnecessarily higher circulation because of that disproportionate amount of cases and hospitalizations in the unvaccinated.

Because the numbers are working out just such that the medical system is barely picking up the slack in that extra amount of unnecessary cases, the wilfully unvaccinated as yet are kind of shielded from the impacts in the community/province of that unnecessarily higher circulation until it’s too late and they or family are directly effected.

Very possible there’s a rude awakening coming depending on what the news ends up being re the new variant discovered earlier in the week. Depending on how serious the variant is and any differences in how it spreads I wouldn't be surprised if the kid gloves may have to come off as far as how govs and public health are approaching protecting the wider population. If we're fortunate that this one isn't the worst case scenario it's at the very least a reminder that we aren't done with this virus and that we need to continue to take public health guidance seriously to stay ahead of this

My hubby has ear and jaw problems on the left side along with headaches on that side sinus seems quite stuffed. As his eye is teary all the time due to cancer medication clinics won’t let a doctor see him. They say go away you must have COVID-19.

This has nothing to do with COVID-19. A few months ago he got tested and it was negative. He is fully vaccinated.

He is in a lot of pain and doesn’t know what to do.

It is easy for public health to say go to your dr when sick but what do you do when they won’t see you. He has tried a couple of clinics same result.

He figures he will have to go to the ER on the weekend and give up a number of hours and way more cost to the govt along with the potential of being exposed to Covid-19 with the hope a dr will look at him.

This is unacceptable and I would guess has happened to many.

Majority of Manitobans are being treated like second class citizens as health care is all directed at COVID-19 infections. We are left in a void.

I'm sorry your husband is going through this. I find it odd that he is being turned away, however. I have had zero issues accessing medical care during all this, especially accessing clinics etc. Same goes for my husband and children. Does he not have a regular doctor?

The best I can suggest that if he's being turned away due to having some Covid-like symptoms is to go get tested, and then as soon as you have a negative test go to the doc. That is generally the first step these days for anything that might look like Covid.

For those who do not want the vaccine, what are your thoughts on long covid?

I trust doctors, science and vaccines so for me, it just makes sense to try and protect myself against the virus. Long covid symptoms worry me more than a vaccine

If your husband has respiratory symptoms, there are a couple of options. He could get a more recent covid test, and then his family doctor may see him. Or he could make an appointment at the Respiratory Clinic:

Unfortunately, i have allergies, asthma and fibromyalgia, and after having a really bad day with all three flaring up, i went to the clinics, and I say clinics cause i tried 4, when they all turned me away. Went to the hospital, explained my symptoms, and what was happening, and the nurse just shook her head. turned out to be a small infection that was causing me issues. i wasted my time, the nurses time, and the doctors time, when if they had allowed me into the clinic (yes i'm double vaccinated and was at this time) i would have gotten the same results. i get that they are all scared about covid, but why have the clinics opened for walk ins, if they won't even let you in the door. I had one stop me on the step and grill me, yes i have a hard time breathing, i'm asthmatic, yes i have pains that's not normal cause of fibro, and yes i'm stuffed up with a sore throat cause i'm coughing and sneezing and the weather is causing issues. Nope, those are all symptoms, so can't get through the door. No fever, no vomiting, nothing of the sort, but because i have 3 of the how many symptoms, they assume covid and turn people away. This is also putting a strain on the ER nurses and doctors, when the only time a person can get help for any infection is to go to the hospital, when they get kicked out of the clinic. Then close the clinics for walkins. Why should they be making money when the ER docs and nurses are doing their job.

Some are just trusting their natural immune systems will do the job of fighting it off until they're too severely positively symptomatic. The same argument can be acknowledged about injecting a vaccine but the same said unvaccinated would go ahead and inject illegal drugs into their bodies, that itself is another crisis on its own.

People will believe anything these days, if a lie is told enough times it will become believable. Or, if the truth is made fun of and scoffed at, it will become funny. Typically at comedy shows or comedy networks, people are laughing and soon you just go along and laugh as well, but deep down inside you wonder why you're laughing.

So who is mocking who here?

I know the truth and trust it, show me the truth and solutions to the matters and I'd adjust my opinion and belief in said truth. He who hears let him hear.

People also pay taxes for public health measures, guidance and research. Then people ignore it, choosing to believe information from dubious sources instead.
