Irie Mon said "What exactly are you expecting the police to do. Unfortunately there is no offence in the criminal code prohibiting someone from checking your car door. Perhaps there should be, maybe make it a crime to "prowl at night" but then the do gooder's of the world will scream it's against our human rights, charter violation, the constitution, blah blah blah. How do you know the police haven't done something like stepping up patrols in your neighbourhood, cops on bikes etc. You don't know because these extra patrols are done in the middle of the night while you are tucked away in bed. The bottom line is that the police and the courts can't do everything. We need to protect ourselves. Lock your doors (car and house). It's such a simple thing. "
But I always believed that crime prevention should be the job of the police. A little engagement with communities and a visible regular police presence in the form of patrols would go a long way.
People, even victims of crime feel neglected and ignored .
