I have some info about egg allergy and H1N1 vaccinations

This is for people who were wondering about getting the vaccine for someone allergy to egg...i can speak for experience...my 4 year old daughter has a diagnosed by allergist allergy to both parts of egg...she requires an epipen...only recently (july 2009) she has been able to have small bits of egg as long as it was with baked goods...i wanted her to get her H1N1 vaccine, but when i tried to book appointment was informed she could not have it due to her allergy...i spoke to her allergist out of the winnipeg clinic who told me that she could do a "scratch test" of the vaccine to see if it was safe however she (because they are a private clinic, not public health) would not be getting any vaccine any time soon....given the seriousness of this I felt since my daughter was in priority group she should receive it at the same time as any other child, not be excluded and have to wait due to her allergy....after much peristance and many phone calls my daugher received her vaccine last Friday under the following conditions (public health took the vaccine to the local hospital...my doctor administered 10% of the vaccine...waited 1/2 hour, then she received the remaining 90% and had to wait another 1/2 hour). It was all done in the emergency room at the hospital that way if there was any reaction she was at the appropriate place for any needed resources (epinephrine, antihistamines, a doctor present, medical equipment, and strict monintoring)..before all this my doctor consulted with the allegist and this plan was developed in collaboration with public health, my doctor, the allergist, me and the hospital... I know that not all places will do this , but lucky for us we are in a small town and i am so greatful that they went out of there way to help us....I also know that the pediatric allergy dept at health sciences centre is soon, if not already, going to be getting some vaccine soon to be able to do testing for those children that are severely allergic.
