What the heck is going on with my hair?!

Lately I've been shedding a lot of hair. I pull a substantial amount of it out of my brush every morning, finding long hairs on my clothing, you name it! I'm female, 23, and fearing I'll be bald soon! Agh!
Here's what has changed:
- In the last six months, I've lost about 30lbs and 5 inches around my waist by cutting down portions of food, exercising, eating healthier, and becoming (mostly) vegetarian. I still eat fish, the odd piece of bacon or chicken wing here and there (can't resist!), and seafood.
- Work has been a wee bit more stressful. But nothing too crazy.
- I switched from an expensive shampoo to Tresemme a few months back.
Could this be a result of a vitamin deficiency of some sort? B12? Iron? Google gives me mixed answers.
Should I attempt switching to a more expensive, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner? Perhaps a leave-in? My hair doesn't seem overly dry, but it certainly seems to be more brittle as of lately. My overall amount of hair has thinned out quite a bit.
I'm reading a lot of, "Don't worry, this is your hair's natural life cycle..." on the internet. It's hard not to worry! Ack!
I'll be seeing a doctor soon, I suppose that's a place to start - anyone else have a similar experience or advice for me until then?
Thanks a million!
